Michael Owen

is now showing us what could have been.

One of the few worthy successors to Alan Shearer, and what should have been a great transfer.

Making the frustration even worse, is the feeling that if Keegan had still been manager, he would be signing a new contract.

I always felt he'd be on his way at the end of his contract. But under Keegan, this summer it changed my mind and I felt it was clear he would have extended his stay.

Now we're back to square one. He doesn't owe us fans anything anymore. Fair play to him whatever he does.

I had a feeling he might have stayed under KK.

We've been spoilt here, having England-calibre strikers for the last 15 years. It's going to be hard to swallow once he's gone, but the current regime clearly have no intention of keeping him (or attracting his like again).

As Leazes says, what compounds the frustration is that I'm pretty sure he would've signed if a contract had been offered in the summer and if KK was still here.

He certainly looks like he's not in a hurry to leave tbf.

If there's a decent offer (and by that I mean another 3-4 years on similar money) I think he'd take it. Considering the amount we've wasted in the past on shit players, plus his age/injury record I think it'd be a win/win.

Who knows anyway....

i'm hoping he'll stay and he himself has "joked" about nothing being a secret in newcastle.

the talks take place on tuesday. if he gets a 3 or 4 year deal on his current wages he will stay ( just a feeling). otherwise he'll probably go to a second tier premier league place ( like villa or everton)...

just my $0.02

It's hard to know what he will do, his comments in his interview suggest he's open to the idea but he said similar at Liverpool and they thought he was stringing them along in the end.

Could go either way.

I'm sure he would have done, assuming the £££'s was there.
