Pini Zahavi, the world's leading football agent, is masterminding a takeover of Newcastle United.

The Israeli go-between was involved in two meetings last week with a representative of Seymour Pierce, the investment bankers representing Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.

Zahavi was in London on business and arranged the fact-finding meetings at his apartment.

Ashley has aimed to clinch a £250million sell-out, but interest in the Geordies has been undermined by the world financial crisis.

Zahavi is representing a group who are keen to buy a Premier League club. They are serious bidders who are happy to let him establish the state of Newcastle's finances. He's reporting back to them before they make their next move.

Gaydamak ready to sell Portsmouth

Gaydamak became sole owner of Portsmouth in July 2006

Portsmouth owner Alexandre Gaydamak has put the club up for sale.

The 32-year-old Franco-Russian businessman cited growing business commitments for his decision.

He told the Sunday Mirror: "I have come to realise over a period of time that I can no longer invest the time required to oversee the running of the club."

However, Gaydamak said he will not sell to anyone without a guarantee they will commit to funding a new stadium and training ground for the club.

Gaydamak became co-owner of Portsmouth, alongside then-chairman Milan Mandaric, in January 2006.

He bought out Mandaric at a cost of about £32m to solely take the helm at Fratton Park in July that same year, and set out his strategy to find a new stadium and training facilities for the club.

Gaydamak insists he will now seek assurances that any potential buyer will ensure those ambitions become reality.

He said: "As regards the new stadium and training ground it is sensible to re-evaluate things in the current market, but I stress that it is imperative that they go ahead.

"And until I find a buyer who will give me cast iron assurances that this will be the case, I will remain at the club.

"I have already rejected two offers for the club because I didn't feel the buyers' motives were in the best interests of the club's long-term future.

"Making money from the sale of the club does not interest me. Finding the right buyer is far more important."

Ashley said he will not sell to anyone without a guarantee they will pay him silly money in cash.

"And until I find a buyer who will give me cast iron assurances that this will be the case, I will remain at the club.

"I have already rejected two offers for the club because I didn't feel the buyers offered me enough.

Making money from the sale of the club interests me."

hmmmm an extract from Zahavi's wikipedia...

In 2005 the English Football Association recommended that Zahavi be investigated for his part in the Ashley Cole 'tapping-up' affair. He was also present when then-England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson met with Chelsea owner Abramovich; Eriksson later issued a statement denying his meeting was for business reasons.

Following the Lord Stevens 'bung enquiry', Zahavi was reported to be involved in "making illicit payments" on a deal involving Fabio Rochemback and fellow agent Barry Silkman.

"Agent Pinhas Zahavi has failed to co-operate fully with the inquiry . There was an initial failure to disclose his involvement in a number of transfers but, more seriously, he has failed to provide the inquiry with complete bank statements due to the confidential nature of them. There has also been a lack of responsiveness by Zahavi. There remains questions relating to his relationship with, and payments to, licensed agent Barry Silkman, and with Silkman's failure to initially disclose his involvement in all the transactions in which he has received fees."

Ahhhh good old honest football :birthday: just what we need.
