FA to act over Mido abuse claims

The Football Association is investigating claims of racist chanting directed at Middlesbrough striker Mido by Newcastle supporters on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Egyptian was targeted as he warmed up during the 0-0 draw at the Riverside in a repeat of scenes in the same fixture last season.

An FA spokesman told BBC Sport: "We'll work with the clubs and potentially the police to identify those responsible.

"We would call for individuals found guilty to be banned."

But Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate does not believe Newcastle should be punished for the incident.

"We have to rise above it. If people want to shout those things it's a reflection on them," said Southgate.

"There's a danger that we go on a witch hunt. What do you do? Punish the club?

"They can't do anything about their travelling fans. It's an individual decision to sing what they want.

"I don't think that's fair. How can a club the size of Newcastle control individuals?

"It's a sensitive one and I understand the importance, but I don't want to put the pressure on an excellent club like Newcastle."

A spokesman for Newcastle added: "The club does not condone any sort of offensive chanting."

You fucking mug. I wasn't even at the game, and sources tell me the Mido abuse was hardly noticable so I suggest you change the title of this thread you South Midlands tosser.

What exactly were the chants? and are they any worse than "Just a fat Aussie bastard"?

I don't doubt Newcastle have got some utter scumbags following them, but christ this gets dragged up everytime we play them, I've never heard anything bad about our fans when we've played other teams with lads from Egypt, Turkey, or wherever, so I doubt it's racist and would, instead, suggest that perhaps it's because Mido's a fat bastard who plays for Boro'.

Nothing to do with the fact he looks like the shoebomber. It's because EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US is racist, despite not having any idea that the bloke was a Muslim before last seasons derby. And all the other teams who sang the same song are not counted because it's not a story when it isn't NUFC.

she needs a kick in the flaps tbh....

Off Roberto Carlos.

No one would care if it was Tottenham singing it, no one notices or cares about them.

I can tolerate journos having a dislike for us but when they start contacting the FA about frivolous claims about politically sensitive issues just to draw attention to us and her then that's going too far.

Why have you posted an article written after last seasons game?

I havent.

Yes you did.

Then I told you you posted it.

Then you changed it.

Why lie?

She is Mike Ashley illegitimate daughter, so she can't help it.

If Mido was from Luxembourg we'd still abuse him. Oh, and we clearly invented this song while we were brewing up a racialist riot down by the Bigg Market with our whippets, coal picks and Greggs pies. Never mind that loads of other fans have sung it.

No more "r@cist" than the Sol Sol wherever you may be song.

Middlesbrough striker Mido has launched a stinging attack on the FA and Newcastle United for their handling of racist chanting during the Tees-Tyne derby.

A section of Newcastle fans launched into an abusive song aimed at the Egypt international as he prepared to come on as a substitute in Saturday's goalless draw at the Riverside Stadium.

The song - 'Mido, he's got a bomb you know' - was only brief and not repeated once Mido had replaced Jeremie Aliadiere but it was the same abuse as in last season's derby on Teesside which prompted an FA investigation.

However, Mido has claimed the FA's inaction a year ago has allowed the problem to persist and said he expects them to be no help in the future.

The ex-Tottenham forward told Egyptian TV: 'They kept chanting disgusting words, racist words about Islam and unfortunately this is the second time the same fans have done this. It has happened again as the English FA did nothing the first time. I considered this as an invitation from the FA for the Newcastle supporters to repeat such shameful acts.

'I can assure you that nothing is going to happen again. The FA said they will be investigating the issue and make use of the latest technology to stop such racial abuse of players. But I feel that nothing will happen. I am asking the FA to take serious action to stop such a thing. These chants are not directed at me as a person but they are directed at Islam as a religion.'

What a horrible little smog wanker, turning it into a religion thing.
