Guest alex
Danny, Caskey is hardly in his prime now is he? One of the best set piece takers I've seen play mind. Shame he was such a fat arse. Svetoslav Todorov? John Hartson (too old?) Huckerby Laurent Robert (can't believe he hasn't got a mention yet. Starting left winger) I met him in a Casino in Lisbon. He is still playing (or was then) top flight portugese football. Hardly a fall from grace. He was there about five minutes and didn't play much. His career went rapidly downhill after he left Newcastle. Although you could probably say it did while he was still here.

He's played for 5 clubs since leaving Newcastle three years ago and getting released by every club after a short time. If that's not a fall from grace... Geordieboyo 0
Underachieving is all relative. Therefore I give you at centreback one Jonathan Woodgate. Granted its injury which has done him, but look at where he was in 2001, you would have expected him to be the cornerstone of the England defence and playing for Man Utd or Chelsea. Douggy B 0
Oh I see. Shame, seemed like a decent enough bloke. Refused to slate Souness despite clearly disliking him.

tinofbeans 91
does he get in the team though. on a regular basis. he'll be what 33 or 34 now? for my money i don't think there was a fall from grace for him , you get older, you lose a bit of speed and your technique deteriorates as does your strength. you go down the leagues during his 4 seasons here he was the most "marmite" player we ever had. effective but lazy! when he was here we came 3rd 4th and 5th, when he left we came 14th. think that tells you part, but not all of the story. ewerk 31592
Wayne Quinn anyone? Was reasonably highly rated and then ended up retiring from professional football at 28.
Park Life 71
Sidwell. Had a massive value and was said to be a in contention for England.

Guest alex
Already mentioned Seth Johnson. He's the archetype though.
Andrew Flintoff 0
Jordi Cruff I'd say. Luke Chadwick. Nick Chadwick for that matter. Danny Cademarteri. Paolo Vernazza. Michael Branch. They were all highly rated around the turn of the century but none of them made it big.

Fair enough. It's not like you couldn't have worked it out from his comments at the time, mind: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ted/4443365.stm But aye, good on him for keeping his trap shut now, anyway. Optimistic Nut 267
Only really need a couple of centre-backs. Alton Thelwell came to mind. From the Spurs first-team and England Under 21s, to Hull, and now Leyton Orient, still only 28.
Optimistic Nut 267
Who was that lad that Middlesbrough signed from Boro at the same time as Greening? Greening at least made a decent Premiership career for himself, no idea what happened to the other lad, and he was the more highly rated at the time as well. Optimistic Nut 267
Aye, that's the one. Think Djemba-Djemba might fill in at centre-back. Came with a good reputation from France, played for Man Utd, Villa, Burnley and now Odense.
