The credit crunch will f*ck us over in terms of finding a new owner

While I read the news that the words is going to hell in a hand basket, I find it hard to think about how it will all affect me personally. My savings seem safe, and I'm not planning to retire anytime soon, so my super seems fine too.

However, it does look like many football clubs will be badly effected; esp. West Ham and Pompy.

Luckily, Newcastle is in a better position.

However, with no available money for many potential new owners, we may be stuck with Ashley longer than we thought. If this is the case:

* we should just accept it and realise that it may take a while for a new owner to come buy us ... but it will happen. In the meantime, fans located in Newcastle (I live in Perth, Australia) shouldn't boycott games or disrupt the games as they progress (i.e. like the 'Go home cockney mafia' banner). All attention should be given to supporting the lads on the pitch. Staying up is even more important than finding a new owner.

* also, while I'm keen, too, for NUFC to find a new owner, I have to admit that we'd be A LOT MORE worse off if Ashley hadn't bought us and paid off the 100 million pounds that we were in debt. We are still 20 mill in debt, but that's nowhere as worse as 120 mil.

As such, no banks, creditors etc. are likely to ask for the debt back immediately and leave us in financial ruin and turn us into the next Leeds United.

Old Fat Freddy was leading us into financial dire straits.

Nevertheless, if we do not find a new owner, there will be no money to spend come January and our now wafer thin squad will start to resemble something like the width of loo paper.

Not a happy thought.

And if we don't get any new players, then it may be very difficult to stay up.

If we don't stay up, we don't receive TV rights money (30 mill plus) and we will be in the financial sh*thole.

Just my thoughts.

PS: Great forum and from a first-time poster ... hello to you all.

GO THE TOON!

Dear Mr Sweeney

May I be the first to say, fuck off!

Ashley the cunt needs to be gone and under no circumstances should he be allowed to feel like the tide has changed and that he may get away with making such a mockery of our club.

He needs to be reminded that he has to sell up and get out of town for what he has done.

As for the get behind your team, you really need to get a check of yourself because if you can find a supporter of this club that doesn't want the team to well, I'd be surprised.

Understand this, if Ashley still owns the club come Jan there won't be money available for transfers.

The cunt is only interested in what he can take out, he's not interested in putting money into the club, that is obvious for all to see.

Now kindly piss off and support the glory

Stupid way to react to a first time poster who's been nothing but cordial imo. Nice one.

Aye was a bit strong for no reason like  Not getting your oats sammy?

As for the OP, Im not sure how much the financial situation effects football. TV money is fairly secured for the next few years, gates across the country are not really being impacted. Those that are buying clubs as toys generally have no much money that drops in shares are a drop in the ocean plus as most known, when times are tough like this you need to ride it out and come out stronger. Those that will suffer are those already in a dodgy position financially. But, Im not sure about football.

Was it Scotty?

All supporters have just been told to pull their head in about protesting against Ashley because of the "credit crunch" and you think it's fine?

You as much as anyone, Mr Fucking apathy, know that the protesting against Ashley can't stop.

Yeah ok, there is no need to go over the top but the message and the boycott of non ticket related spending at the club and the ground and any Ashley owned/controlled store or brand merchandise, goods or services shouldn't.

Actually why bother. You are to apathetic to protest or action anything against the club and are guilt of more than once telling someone to fuck off on their geographical alone.

By the way Mr Sweeney, welcome to the board

Sorry to upset you ...

I wasn't suggesting that you didn't support the club or that Ashley was my hero.

I was just suggesting that these are the circumstances we find ourselves in and we have to make the best of it--because, otherwise, it could be a lot worse.

You could have at least countered was I was saying about the financial shit we may be in. Because, like it or not (or however strong the support for the club is) it is money that keeps it all afloat.

And if you read what I wrote correctly, you'd see that I agree with you about the Jan. transfers.

As to JawD (and Gemmill), cheers for the support.

Yeah, you may be right about the fact that the mighty-rich owners have nothing to worry about. Nevertheless, even Man U is in ENORMOUS debt and (even though it is unlikely to occur) if the banks call up on the debt to fund the shit that's hit the fan, where are they gonna come up with 700 mill?

It's the smaller clubs that might find it really difficult to survive. Third or lower division teams that rely on the support of local businesses for sponsorship might find it all dry up. I think a few teams may have to either start selling their grounds and move in with other teams or just go under all-together.

Finally, yes, I am a Glory supporter. Fully-paid membership and all--and very proud of my club (two time winners of the NSL).

Tin Hat time. There is worse than Ashley out there most of the owners nowadays are in for the money. I hate the bastard for his choice of staff, and the way he introduced them. His ideas on reducing debt and buying young talent is a good one we are too used to buying finished trophy signings. Me I'm not boycotting to get Keegan back but I'm boycotting to get us back on the back pages of the papers and get a settled club.

If Ashley got rid of the dwarf and brought in Hiddink (eg) spent a bit cash I would be happy

By the way Sweeney fuck off

sweeney don't be sorry, just don't do it again!

Message boards are all about opinions and let's be honest everyone, except danny b, is entitled to one.

I just disagree that supporters can't stop sending the message to Ashley and his cunt mates because as you said (yeah sorry I missed your point there) the club can't afford to have him as an owner come Jan 2009.

Glad to hear your one of the five paid up glory members left.

As someone who was born in Newcastle and raised in Wollongong - you and I are going to just get along fine. :D

And berb - fuck off you old bugger. As if Hiddink would work for this penny pinching cunt.

Or was that one of your jokes :D

Shag one sheep and you get a reputation :D

Hiddink was an example. What I'm trying to say is to me Keegan coming back is not critical. One of the biggest mistakes Ashley made was to start keegan. Bigger one was sacking him / letting him walk.

When did you become welsh

Mate I hate to argue the point berb but Ashley's biggest mistake wasn't sacking or letting Keegan walk, it was not backing his managers with funds and enough trust in them building their own teams. Let's not forget that.

Now I'll put my hand up to wanting Allardyce as far away from the club as possible and at the time I was able to understand the rumours why Ashley wouldn't be as forth coming with a manager that wasn't his choice (and remember at the time although we rubbished them, there were rumours that Ashley didn't want to back the fat one financially).

But Ashley the cunt now has a two for two strike rate of not backing the Newcastle manager.

And don't doubt it come Jan if he is still here, because he's trying to screw every pound of of the club right to the end, his third choice the fuckin' Kinnear will also be left out to dry.

As Leaze, now, rightly likes to point out:

It's about backing your manager!

:D

but you are wrong take a telling from an old guy who has seen a lot :D

If Ashley had not taken Keegan on our expectations would not have been as high nor emotional. He should have known what he was taking on and what reaction he was going to get. Keegan is a stroppy god.

now stop replying so I can get on with me work :D

In many ways the gobal credit hangover is maybe doing us a favour (although I suspect it's also been behind some/much of Ashley's about face too).

Both the supposed Nigerian and South African buyers were going to loan buyers, they wouldn't have the cash as such they'd be doing something more like the Glazers at Man U (only long gone are the days when we could realistically be compared to Man U).

At least at the moment the only buyers are likely to be genuinely self-wealthy (DIC etc.) and not out to gamble on trying to make quick buck on NUFC whilst saddling us with masses of debt.

Ashley is basically trying to flog us to whomever, and for a profit too. I'd rather he didn't make a profit for such an ill-judged venture and I'd certainly rather he didn't flog us to the first used car salesman that thinks they can get credit and make a profit.

I still think Keegan is the best manager we can realistically achieve at any time in the future.

But his coming back isn't absolutely vital, what was absolutely vital was not trying to flog players behind his back by people with next to no record in the transfer market and certain nothing like Keegan's own.

Although I'm far from sure Ashley has meant to do anything but turn a profit since not long after he bought us (which coincidentally was, of course, just before the credit crunch first bit).

Yeah but will you still kiss me in the morning?

By the way I love the Keegler and I want to see Ashley bankrupt, broke and selling his arse at mardi gra to make a enough for a glass of metho.

But it's still because he won't back his managers.

And get back to work, no wonder the world's going broke.

In reality, I think selling the club is going to be on hold for the time being. I can't see anyone ploughing £200m+ into anything at the moment. I suppose you could argue that the club has an intrinsic value and that an investor might think it was safer than buying shares in something that could be worthless the next day. (I know I'm oversimplifying)....

But anyway, the fact is, that Ashley has been caught short as have most people in business. It does no good to put more pressure on him IMO as I think another owner could fuck us over even worse. At least we sort of know where we are with Ashley. (admittedly it's not great).

What we need to do for the good of the club is get behind Joe and the team. As crazy as it sounds, if we're heading in the right direction on the pitch, the other problems can wait for a while.

As someone else recently said, at least the club isn't in a lot of debt and although I very much doubt that was through pure altruism, we are at least far better off than we could have been and that's down to Ashley.

I think it's really a case of wait and see what happens with this deadline. I have no trust in Ashley now and I hope we get a suitable consortium willing to buy the club but if the club can't be sold we'd be better off as fans imo doing what Mr. Foreskin says and concentrate on getting behind the lads. It's hardly ideal, I know, but it's a distinct possibility in the current financial climate.

Isn't Kashley the type of gutter marketer that has CLOSING DOWN SALE! on his stores for 3 years running?

This deadline is, I suspect, more of the same and combined with the state of the market I wouldn't be surprised to see it extended for ONE MONTH ONLY!
