Smith: Injury blow

Newcastle's woes continue with the news Alan Smith been diagnosed with a stress fracture of his foot and could be out for the next three months.

The 27-year-old is preparing for surgery and is unlikely to play again this year once he goes under the knife.

Smith has struggled for playing time this season and was linked with a St James' Park exit before the close of the transfer window.

However, with Newcastle beset by injuries and suspensions, the England international would have hoped to have forced his way into Chris Hughton's reckoning over the next few weeks.

Newcastle travel to West Ham on Saturday in a game that marks Gianfranco Zola's first in the Upton Park dugout.

the way things are at the minute this actually is another kick in our overly assaulted balls.

Smith is going to be a useful asset in our relegation battle.

By doing what exactly?

Allowing us to play 11 rather than 10 men. :nufc:

5.5 Can't we just put Butt's and Viduka's problems together to find a solution?
