sammynb 3640
http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Business/...200809315101162 Fuck I hope so! Before trading Britain's biggest mortgage lender and savings institution had seen around £3bn wiped of its market value as the fallout from the collapse of Lehman Brothers continued. Statements from both HBOS and the city regulator Financial Services Authority assured investors that the bank's finances were sound. The FSA said: "We are satisfied HBOS is a well capitalised bank that continues to fund its business in a satisfactory way."
Fop 1
In all honesty I think this explains a lot of Ashley's behaviour. He came into NUFC fairly cash rich (or at least with assets with a high cash value), but the changing economic conditions have wiped a lot of his value off. Plus some of his gambles have begun to fail (a bit like the housing developers that spend far too much, but the constantly rising market kept saving them). And now he seems to be on some massive gamble to make a packet out of NUFC or destroy it.

I've made the point before about his being, for a number of reasons, significantly less wealthy than when he took over. It still doesn't excuse a lot of the things he's done though. In some ways no but he must have some savvy surely. I'm sure even he realises that the value of NUFC will only be heading in one direction
Geordieboyo 0
The HBOS shares should recover a fair bit in the next couple of days. The fall was down to speculators rather than any true business rationale

Nope, as I've said elsewhere he's a gambler, a chancer that is finally being caught out. Problem is he has a few other deeper issues that aren't helping! The US is going to learn the hard way that you just can't inflate the value of the greenback to make the economy look rosie.
