Sicklee Sausage Roll 0
Dyer Parker Emre Rozenhal Faye Milner Given the fatman's whining regarding the transfer fees still to be paid, am I right to assume we were paid in Cadbury's Buttons for these players? maggiespaws 0
Where's the 20 mill went this transfer window then? Where's the telly money? Hasn't the tv money already been spent by FFS? The Northern Rock money has gone too (thanks freddie). Going off the transfer window - 10.5mil for Colo, + 7mil for Xisco + Spidy (was that 6mil?) = 23.5mil. Plus whatever we've paid for the loan of Guitterez We got 12 for Milner, but wasn't that partially on the basis we were going to get the other guy that pulled out at the last minute, so some of the 12 would have been spent? We haven't spent very much. Xisco was 5.2, Colo 9.1 and Spidey hasn't been declared, we might even have got him for a nominal fee if in reality he did buy out his contract (say 5m for arguments sake). We got money if from Lazio 2.5? And another 2.25 from Stoke and 12m for Milner. Can't remember when the telly money comes. Someone on here will know. Edit: Emre £6m?? It'll be year on year I'd imagine. And the TV money will (I guess) dwarf the (already spent) Northern Rock money.

Either way, if Ashley has paid off most of the debt as he claims then the TV money, commercial revenue and ST money (especially given those paying for 3 seasons) should have had us running at a profit. Their talk of of the financial state after they got in the job was pretty clear tbh. They didn't get into details. But from what I know from people being involved of setting the balance sheets with KPG about a couple of years ago it actually sounds plausible. I am not excusing Ashley for his poor job, but I do actually believe him in in certain parts of his statement. He probably really bought the club for entertainment reasons and to be run in the outline he set up. Which actually is sensible I think. But he was not only let down by his men, but foremost by his judgement. If he wanted to run the club professionally, with "planning", then he should have hired the right people, but he stuck to mates with absolutely no credence for the job they are doing. I do feel for Ashley, because he made a mess out of what he thought would be fun. But he had easy options to rectify it. He could have backed Keegan over Wise (latter's sacking would surely have been cheaper, wouldn't it?!). He could have hired competent people rigt from the start anyway. Unfortunately any basic reason left with Mort...
Fop 1
The whole family/assault thing is a bit of a canard. He's using it to good effect, but realistically I don't think there's anything really in it. Other than the police perhaps being overcautious. If Wise had appeared and told everyone to shut the fuck up, then maybe, but Ashley sitting in the directors box? He'd have got some verbal stick and that would have been about it, less probably if he'd released a vaguely contrite explanatory statement before hand. I suppose his sitting within the fans might be at an end, but what does he really expect? Said this before but I don't think he ever intended to go on Saturday. By saying he might go he thought probably thought he'd sell more tickets (it was a bigger crowd than Bolton as well I think). He's now using this to make the fans look like they've turned on this benevolent family man. Which is total fucking bullshit. Maybe it is and maybe I've fallen for it. I guess I'm trying to look at the bigger picture. His strategy for the future sounds like a good plan IMO and I'd rather we had someone in charge who was trying to ensure the financial stability for the club than someone who was over-extending the club reaching for the stars only for it to fall on it's arse. If what he is saying about the money we owe for players is true then we are more in the shit than any of us knew. You can't build for the future if we're in that situation. The thing is it's not his plan that's the problem, its the implementation. Backing Wise (no experience as a DoF, or a scout and hardly any as a manager) and his ex-casino manager, ex-property developer, and ex-player agent goons over Keegan (and his ridiculous, delooded plan to sign defenders and cover ). It's plain barmy.

There was a pretty reasonable piece in the Northern Echo today on this, the whole thing makes little sense, having a plan like that, but then stacking it with middle-management with next to no experience and personalities likely to clash and fail. It's just plain weird.

Guest alex
I can't quite work out what Ashley is playing at, I must say. Me either. I mean, I think he's in it for the money but the way he's gone about things makes little sense to me. I think the wrong person has his ear, i.e. Wise, and he's been allowed to much free rein over the running of the club while Ashley has been involved in his other businesses. He's also stuck by his mate (Wise) over Keegan. All of it points towards being pretty clueless about running a club, about NUFC and about football in general. It would be horrible to see him make a quick buck out of this in a way, but it would also be the best thing for the club (probably, but knowing our luck...). He did take over a club in a mess and he has done some good things, I accept that. He's made a massive mess of the internal structure with some truly perplexing appointments though. Not least by bringing Keegan back considering what was to follow in terms of who he'd be reporting to. The public relations over all this has been a disaster as well. What on earth he thought could be achieved by releasing club statements that not only went against the mood of the vast majority of fans but also contradicted many things that had been said previously is beyond me.
