Scottish Mag 3
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION! The Mag – true faith Newcastle United Fanzines joint statement Like many Newcastle United supporters we have been sickened by the events of the last week and the departure of Kevin Keegan from his position as manager of our club. We believe Kevin had little alternative but to resign given the gross incompetence and mismanagement of Dennis Wise, Executive Director of Football and Derek Llambias, Managing Director who like Kevin were appointed by Mike Ashley. While Kevin Keegan remained at Newcastle United the fans trusted that the club was moving forward at last, with Keegan’s departure all trust has gone. Both The Mag and true faith believe there has been a fundamental break in trust between board and the support. Both true faith and The Mag have been inundated by requests from supporters keen to take action against those within the boardroom of Newcastle United. Having read many hundreds if not thousands of e-mails sent into both fanzines we are recommending the following action in protest at its appalling treatment of Kevin Keegan and the entirely unworkable structure it has established at the club, namely around the club’s transfer policy. That initial action includes; An immediate and indefinite boycott of all Newcastle United merchandise to include replica shirts, other club clothing and any items sold at official NUFC outlets. It will also include the non-purchase of all Newcastle United programmes and magazines as well as food, drinks and beverages of any description. This boycott will include raffle tickets, lotteries and any other products associated with Newcastle United Football Club. This to include also a boycott of all club bars including Shearer’s Bar as well as club cafes, official club tours, visits to the NUFC museum and any other activity which generates an income for Newcastle United. This boycott to be extended to any retail outlet or product owned either in full or in part by Mike Ashley e.g. Sports Soccer, Lillywhites etc. We do not advocate a boycott (this is backed up overwhelmingly in the emails we have received) of the game against Hull City at SJP on Saturday 13/Sep/08. Newcastle United’s players have done nothing wrong and certain individuals have behaved impeccably given the manner in which their manager and team-mates have been treated this last week. They remain deserving of our support. We advocate supporters vocally expressing their disgust against the current regime whether they are at the match or not, which will act as a clear demonstration of the antipathy of supporters towards Ashley, Llambias and Wise. There should be no abuse directed at any Newcastle United player. We insist that Mike Ashley does not attend away games amongst the travelling support. He is not a Newcastle United supporter and as far as true faith and The Mag are concerned he is not welcome amongst our ranks. If any effort is made by Ashley to attend future away games we would recommend the away support to vocally remind him he is not wanted amongst us. We do not advocate violent disorder of any description.

Tom 14017
Probably for the best. On a side note why the fuck do people feel the need to quote the full article in their posts if they aren't highlighting anything specific?

Even the most part-time supporter will be made aware of this. The consensus was to boycott even before this press release. I've had a few "pass it on" type texts advocating match attendance but no other spending. The club shops in town have certainly been barren when I've walked by. You have to feel for the kids working in the club shops etc.? Having said that, will they want more adverse publicity or will they not give a shit? ChezGiven 0
I'd have liked them to have set out the accusation a bit more clearly as i'm still not clear who is lying as i have never seen a copy of Keegan's contract. If Keegan is telling the truth, he should have walked months ago, not the day after the transfer window shut. If the club is telling the truth, they should have sacked him months ago. No matter who is telling the truth, the actions of all concerned have leftt the club where we are today. I know its not a popular view, so apologies but i cant help what i think. peasepud 59
I would have liked to see something of a display in there. Boycotting merchandise was a given tbh but it doesn't show anything tangible to the press and a picture paints a thousand words as they say. Even if it had been a call to not wear toon tops it could have given a good image for the papers on Sunday.

Banners would be the best way but there is nee way that would happen with the Nazis in the EPL stadia today. So banners outside with people dressed up as clowns handing out leaflets and speaking through them mega phones *calls True Faith up*

I don't count Keegan as blameless either, yet. But everyone at the club has made a concerted effort to mislead the fans on how their club is being ran. Whether Keegan was a part of it and tried to use it as leverage, or whether he was misled also is immaterial. He's history and we need to move on. I can't see how we do that with an owner that has such contempt for his customers that his policy is to lie about how he does business, as well as insisting all of his employees go along with that lie to cover what his intentions are with our club. Guest alex
To say he should have quit earlier (if he had been misled) is ridiculous imo since he must have hated having to quit for several reasons - love of the club and its fans down to stuff like knowing the press would (to steal his phrase) just love it if he did so. Not to mention the club having him over a barrel with the much talked-about £2m clause in his contract. Also, this sort of thing builds up over a while and, as I see it, the events in the lead up to the transfer window closing were the final straw for him. I can't help but think that people are already starting to wane in their anger at Ashley, that nothing will come of anyone trying to arrange protests of any sort and that there's no chance of us being bought out any time soon. Basically, we're stuck with a lying, devious regime running the show, a thin squad and anyone coming in on the management side will be yes men and most likely have big links to London. I'm still gutted

The only way he'll walk away is if someone offers to buy the club for an amount which gives him a tidy profit. He won't sell it as a loss because of fan pressure imo because he doesn't need to go near the club again and I don't think he gives a shit. That interview with Sir John Hall after he'd sold up where he went on about only selling to someone he saw as talking Newcastle Utd forward, that the club was in good hands... yeah, cheers for that John.
