TheInspiration 1
Zico would get us playing pretty football. I'd rather have us play winning football. That was the attitude when Allerdyce took over. Ok, we weren't winning often but when we did we weren't happy. Do you really want us to repeat the 6 months before Keegan took over? 'Cause I don't Generally it wasn't Allardyce's "winning" tactics that won us those matches - it wade either luck or the opposition being rubbish. Even I said under Sam Id rather have winning football than pretty football. However, I didnt realise just how bad the football had to be under sam in order to win. Even then the winning didnt last long.

Someone was there to put the ball in the net at the end of the day, so whether or not it was down to luck or rubbish opposition is academic as that was Fat Sam had always set out to do. When we won it was a slog to get through. Games such as Wigan at home where we had a few chances but weren't putting them away only to score late on was "winning" football but I always thought that if that if Owen hadn't scored there would have been booing and you could feel it in the crowd. Winning football is more or less the same as shite football but with 3 points at the end. That was what the whole kick-off was about in the first place. Guest alex
Allardyce didn't even promote 'winning' football though. That's what pissed people off more than anything else. Two games that really stand out for me are the away games against Derby and Fulham where we played for a draw against awful opposition that were there for the taking. We got our just desserts in the first match, giving Derby there only 3 point haul of the season (tells you a lot) and we were very lucky to beat a dreadful Fulham team. The latter match is one of the worst games I've seen in a long time because you had two poor sides who showed no ambition whatsoever. The one saving grace was that I was high as kite at Craven Cottage.
