adios 717
scandisk it first, you'll have a few bad sectors but should save the majority. Norton utilities is very handy if you can find a copy. This is no use now but for future reference, I don't know how many times I said it to students when I was working in the computer centre at University, keep a backup, preferably two! Failing that viagra works a treat, especially when mixed with pills.
chip2388 0
Buy a USB its alot more reliable and never crashes on me, it holds alot more memory than a floppy disk depending on what size you get, plus you can stick in with your other keys so it'll be with you at all times. Zathras 244
I had this problem a few weeks ago and used this program which recovered every bit of data from the disk: PC inspector

Neither of them should ever be used to store back-ups or worse, the primary copy of your data.
Lou 0
According to one of my uni lecturers today, if a floppy disk becomes corrupted then there's no way of fixing it. I don't know if he's right. Just thought I'd share his happy message.

As if you remove it during a write phase they get corrupted and usually need a format.

Renton 21626
Can't believe anybody still ues floppys tbh. A lot of modern PCs don't even have floppy drives, especially lap tops. Truely ancient technology.
Jill 0
I was ultra paranoid about my thesis and kept copies saved all over the place. A lad at my college managed to lose his 12,000 word thesis the day before it was due to be handed in and had to start again from scratch. They eventually gave him a bit longer, but he was threatened with being chucked off the course. 43947 I would've actually dropped down dead if that happened to me. Over the next year I've got to do a portfolio thing for college. I'll end up having at least 3 copies of the typed bit but there's got to be 'evidence' as well which will be a nightmare to keep track of. I always lose things. No back up. ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unbeilevable that I hadn't made a copy, to this day I can't believe it. What an idiot. Fortunately I only needed to reenter about 400 citations for my thesis, which took me about 48 hours virtually non stop - I still have nightmares thinking about it though. Renton 21626
dissertations are just cunts! unis should stop bothering with them, worst few weeks of most peoples young lives! or months if you tried hard! 43959 Try writing a PhD thesis. 100,000 words followed by an interview (viva) on it (with two or three experts in the field) that takes a whole day. There's a good chance you will fail too.
Renton 21626
Content and usefulness wise, undergraduate theses/dissertations are pretty useless - mine included, it was no masterpiece really and won't have exactly contributed to academic discussion. I see the logic behind doing them, after three years on a history degree it would be ludicrous if you hadn't developed research skills and the like. 43963 I guess it depends what you do I suppose. As it happens I found some innovative results for my project that my undergraduate dissertation was based on.
