Craig 6682
It's not about Keegan any more though is it? He's gone now, his time as manager of NUFC is consigned to history and anyone harbouring ideas that he'll be back as part of some multi-billion pound Indian takeover deal are frankly living in cloud-cuckoo land... It's not about aportioning blame, it's about rooting out any problems that are within the club and IMO, the problems are still very much there. paddy 17
its all quiet about Adam and Terry, imo its because they were mates with KK, and could be seen as KK's men on the inside for info etc
Park Life 71
I said somewhere, after a while people will start blaming KK. Don't you think he could have either said something earlier or at least left at a better time? Well he sort of tried after the Chelsea game and was whipped off to London for a telling off. I can see totally where KK was coming from and I don't really care what players he was asking for, you either compete in the PL or you go backwards and then down. IMO he waited till the window to see if they had signed any good players. For me he had little idea what was occurring and it might even have taken him time to realise the true nature of MA. Left in an impossible position so he talked with Terry and when it was clear that he was leaving, Adam followed suit. Shame. Truly is, this was (clichés aside) his dream job. He's only a year older than me and he's the reserve team coach at his home town club. Not a bad future ahead of him if you ask me. He must be doing something right to be at this stage of that career at this age.
paddy 17
from what i saw of the reserves last season, 5-6 games, he had the respect of the team and had them playing some cracking stuff, met him twice, took time out to chat to me and the young'un (6 year old called Adam too so he liked him!!) seemed to love the job, god knows whats happening, lets wait and see who takes over, btw whos reserve coach at spurs? The Fish 10856
Thing is, he's got a young family and the upheaval of a move could be pretty tough for them. I don't think he'd be content coaching at a lower level (Blyth Spartans and the like) so he'd have to move further afield. Doubt he'd want to work for Sunderland, but if the opportunity arose, he might have to. I dunno I'm just speculating. Feel really bad for him though. TheMoog 0
I can't believe the amount of people who have gone from angry to apathetic and accepting of getting a new manager in in the such a short space of time... Ashley is scum and people are giving in already, I knew it would happen though.

That's what I think did it for him. He was being told to build from nothing (i.e. youth) AND deliver progress on the Top 4. Impossible. You can use youth to help you eventually, but to make inroads into the top 4 you need to spend significantly for NOW players as well (and have a decent squad not just first 11). The whole management structure are idiots if they think they can get top 4 (or top 5 now with Man City) on a £12m per year transfer budget. I'm sure Arsenal will be trotted out, but they 1. came from a pretty strong position before Wenger and from a different time in the Premier League (there was no Top 4/5 when Wenger came) 2. have spent a lot of money anyway to get and stay where they are. That's the whole thing with the 'do an Arsenal' thing. Apart from the PL being more open, like you say, there's also the small matter of the players Wenger inherited - the likes of Ian Wright, Bergkamp and a fantastic (if ageing) back 4 (5 inc. Spunky). He was also given plenty money to spend as well with some of his best players (Henry, Overmars, Pires) arriving for what weren't exactly insubstantial fees at the time. I know they were all good value but that's by the by. He also spent a fair wedge on less successful players too (Wiltord for one) so he was never constrained by what equates to £12m to spend in the current climate. Wenger inherited one of the best defenses in English football as well as other great players. He also bought Franny Jeffers as well for a tidy sum!!!! Happy Face 29
This Arsenal thing is a piss take. No least because they've got Arsene Wenger running the scouting for talent and we've got Dennis fucking Wise. They don't exactly have a matching ethos on how the beautiful game should be played. Tom 14011
The only way we have ever really had any success recently is a combination of enthusiasm, love for the game and decent amounts of money being spent. If there is one club on the planet that can't succeed on a budget it is us.
David Kelly 1244
Tbf though surely if you want to run a sustainable fooball club there isn't much else in the way of options but to run a transfer policy such as this? Of course going behind your managers back isn't the way to go but unless you have an owner willing to put in £100m+ of his own money (which if Ashely isn't prepared to do that's up to him, it's his money not ours) you can't afford to spunk out all of this money on transfer fees and wages without getting massively into debt like we were starting to do under Shepherd and Leeds did dramatically under Ridsdale. If you want to spend more money you have to make that money by either buying players young and cheap and selling them on at big profits or gaining more tv/prize money by doing better in the league/Europe.
