The fate of Setanta could be settled within weeks as the troubled sports broadcaster attempts to negotiate its way through payments worth tens of millions of pounds due to the Premier League and FA. Setanta, searching for up to £100 million worth of funding to stay in business, is trying to delay or cut payments across a range of sports, from PGA Tour golf to Indian Premier League cricket and the Ultimate Fighting Championship. They are all said to be in favour of helping the broadcaster through its problems. But Setanta had banked everything on football becoming its biggest profit-maker. Winning the rights to England games and the FA Cup, as well as the Barclays Premier League, had sent subscriptions to 1.2 million. But the company is understood to have been late with a £10 million payment to the FA in March and is scheduled to hand over another £35 million to the Premier League by the end of next week.
