The papers know exactly what's going on at club.

We are a club in crisis Alex, Keegan doesn't know what he is doing, Ashley is only looking for a profit after trying his best to rip off ignorant football fans, our attendances are at an all time low and quite frankly appalling and all our players want to leave the club. Add this to the fact we are penniless and nobody wants to come here and you can see the sky is falling in!

Well according to the papers anyway :)

Newcastle United have offered Michael Owen a three-year extension to his current contract.

Owen's future at St James' Park had come into question as he is in the final season of his present deal.

Reports on Sunday had claimed that the Magpies were willing to sell the striker for as little as £2million before Monday's transfer deadline.

But Newcastle have responded to the speculation by putting a lucrative new deal in front of the former Liverpool star.

Reports suggest that Owen has been offered £120,000 a week in order to commit his long-term future to the Magpies.

There had been previous claims that Newcastle wanted the England international to take a pay cut to stay, but he is now in line for a bumper pay rise.

Owen has endured an injury-troubled time on Tyneside since joining the club in a £16million deal from Real Madrid three years ago.

He has been restricted to just 50 appearances for the Magpies, however he has netted 22 goals during that period.

The 28-year-old had missed the opening game of the new season through injury, but is looking to enjoy a sustained run in Kevin Keegan's team.

I hope Ashley is seeing the light but I won't be hedging my bets, its a bit late to rescue any ambition for this season now.

We'll be ok, we'll just sign Sibierski and Bernard again. Prove our real ambition for the season.

:/ 120k a week for a player who managed <50 games in 3years

if we weren't in such a shitty situation i doubt many would disagree with me saying thats fcking daft money

22 goals in that amount of appearances is good none the less.

Can't spend money we don't have can we ? Have we now made a profit on our transfers this summer, big Mike will be pleased at such good business.

i don't disagree but 22goals from a 100k a week striker in 3years wouldn't get you a raise in normal circumstances

i hope after offering this kind of deal (if he accepts) we get a good return on appearances for him this season and my opinion on his injury history is proved wrong,

would be more than happy to be totally wrong in this case

I would blame the team around Owen as opposed to Owen himself.

If Owen gets service he will score. It's a fact of football.

Never once scored 20 league goals in a season though. Although I appreciate this has been down to injuries.

This has been going on for so long that shirley both sides know what the other wants/expects. If a contract is being put to Owen now it must be have been virtually verbally agreed beforehand??

It's a difficult one to call this one. To let Owen leave would have a massive detrimental effect on projecting a good image to the rest of football, however he cannot be kept on silly money just for the sake of it.

I'm pro Owen as he's virtually the only (near) world class player we have.

but you're trying to tell us that the only players we bought were Sibierski and Bernard ?

We never needed players anywhere like we need new players now Jonny ?
