Audio cables - fact or fiction?

After moving house I'm just about to assemble what amounts to the new stereo.

Does anyone have any experience with gold plated or gold tipped RCA cables?

Are they any better?

Silver and copper speaker wire?

Obviously the thickness matters but is there any worth in the "audiophile" cabling?

Or is it just one big audio jimbo?

Faction..... depends on your weakest link really (up to and including your ears).

It's like a guitar cable.

A £6 Cable will do the beginner but once your jamming it into a Blues Deville (4 x 10) and cranking it up to a hall you really need something decent and proper.

I stop at £30 like

But I am after getting them custom made :)

Like everything else I think quality is worth paying for up to a certain point - the price difference for gold interconnects is pretty nominal to make not doing it pointless but I'd definitely splash out on speaker cable - try bi-wired.
