Happy Face 29
http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle...79310-21593884/ JAVIER SAVIOLA has dropped a hint that he will move to Newcastle – if Real Madrid don’t want to keep him, but Newcastle are considering making a big-money move for Chelsea star Florent Malouda. Saviola last night hinted he would be willing to join United on loan, but the Sunday Sun understands the Magpies have approached Chelsea regarding a possible £10 million deal for 28-year-old Malouda. In response, Chelsea will only consider parting with former Lyon winger Malouda once they have confirmed the signing of Saviola’s Real Madrid team-mate Robinho. Newcastle’s need for more new signings is ever more apparent after injuries to Obafemi Martins and Damien Duff in yesterday’s 1-0 victory over Bolton. United are also eyeing Wigan’s Antonio Valencia as an alternative to Malouda, along with Sparta Prague left-back Michal Kadlec. Meanwhile, United boss Kevin Keegan is ready to stake his reputation - and defy angry fans - by making a personal show of support for Joey Barton at the disgraced midfielder’s FA disciplinary hearing on September 5 . . . Amid fears that Barton, following his imprisonment for assault and affray, could be suspended from football until next year. “I will appear personally at the hearing if required. Definitely,” said Keegan. “As long as he (Barton) doesn’t let me or this club down again he has 100 per cent support from me.” Keegan added: “I know a lot of people don’t agree with me. I have had lots of letters. But if you support someone you support them. I don’t think it is brave. It is what I think is right.”

"ready to stake his reputation - and defy angry fans" 1. I can't see how Keegan's reputation is in any way staked upon whatever happens to Barton, never mind just be backing him like he always said he would. 2. I can't see how he's defying angry fans (apart from the couple the media has on standby for all occasions) by doing what he always said he would do. Surely his reputation stands on sticking to his word of supporting Barton as long as he behaves under his management. What kind of man would he be to go back on that? On point 2. He says himself that he's had letters.

He says himself that he's had letters. If we signed Henry we'd probably have some people angry about it, that's not quite the same thing as defying the baying hordes as they are implying. Plus most of those letter will have been from Sunderland fans and CND members no doubt.
Deano 0
I think if we sign saviola we'd revert back to the 433 of last season tbh... Given Beye Colo Taylor Enrique Milner Guthrie Gutierrez Owen Martins Saviola Saviola or owen would play as the link up man behind front two... Other than that id imagine if we stick to 442 saviola would play alongside butt or guthrie, thing is though, would KK drop butt or stick with the impressive guthers? Id go for the later personaly, guthries energy is more important.
OTF 7772
I think Viduka will also have a significant role to play once he is fit again. Owen, Oba and Saviola are all small and quick, Viduka is the opposite - big and slow - but he does a great job of sucking in defenders and opening up space for the others. Given Beye Coloccini Taylor N'Zogbia Saviola Guthrie Gutierrez Owen Viduka Martins Expecting us to have so many guys fit at once is begging for trouble mind you. Papa Lazaru 0
Really hope there is truth in this being one of our targets and that it comes off, and i also think its a good idea when signing foreign players if you can to have more than one from the same country. Its much easier for them to settle in and feel confortable at the club with a few countrymen there and people who speak the language. Wenger had a few french players in at the same time and it worked great for him.

Jimbo 175
I think he'd fit in where a half fit Michael Owen is risked* or, shudder the thought, Alan Smith is selected. That'll do for me. *Yes I know he scored but another time with the lack of other options it might cost us Owen's vital presence for weeks or months.
