All contract talks have been halted for the time being until the transfer window shuts.

they are still posting rubbish stories...

Owen, 29, would be available for as little as £2m as Newcastle hope to cash in now instead of losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season. (Mail on Sunday)

He's 28 for a start.

Essential we hang onto Owen, it really is.
I agree.

If he's sold then Ashley clearly wants lynching.

Not saying we'd have definitely gone down last year but Owen's goals kept us safe. Seeing as how Premiership money is worth £30-£40m a season, Owen has to be one of those players you treat differently and rightly so.

Is that a piss-take btw? If he isn't going to sign a new contract (a big 'if') it's a tough call for the board/KK. And they inherited the Owen 'situation'.

It's up to the board what they offer him though isn't it? I can't see him moving unless he feels he's not being offered enough (however obscene that amount appears to us normal folk). It's not like he's making noises about being unsettled.

Any new striker will be a risk of sorts and presumably won't come cheap either.

Honestly, I would give him a payrise if that's what it takes. And we'd still save money on if we lost him for nowt and had to fork out wages and transfer fee for a replacement.

Agreed. As KK said earlier in the week, you can wait a lifetime for a player like that.

How much would it cost for a transfer fee, signing-on fee and wages for a player who would more than likely score less goals than Owen?
