JawD 99
England U21 2-1 Slovenia U21 Milner capped off a decent performance with the winning goal Micah Richards and James Milner scored as England U21s came from behind to defeat Slovenia U21s in a friendly. Etien Velikonja put the away team ahead with a brilliant finish using the outside of his right foot after a superb through ball from Uros Korun. Richards headed against the post but later stabbed the ball home after Matjaz Rozman failed to hold a cross. James Milner scored with a shot on the turn from 20 yards, while Nejc Pecnik was given a second yellow for dissent. England looked for a third goal after Slovenia were reduced to 10 men and Wolves' Michael Kightly went close with a curling left-foot strike that rebounded off the post. And in the final minute a dazzling run from Adam Johnson almost produced a goal but the winger's strike flew narrowly over. England U21s next play their Portuguese counterparts on 5 September in a game from which they need a point to qualify for the European Championships in 2009. J_D_ 0
You can have 3 older players for U-21 if someone can confirm.. Edited August 19, 2008 by J_D_
Happy Face 29
You can have 3 older players for U-21 if someone can confirm.. We had the debate the other day. If you're under 21 when qualifying starts then you can play the whole 2 years qualifying, and the tournament. He'll be nigh on 24 before he's ineligible. Dr Gloom 22500
what a strange rule. call me a bluff old traditionalist but i'd expect those players that represent their country at under 21 level, to be under 21... Happy Face 29
I knew I wasn't quite correct last night... "Players born in 1986 or later are eligible for the 2007-09 UEFA European U-21 Championship." Milner and Taylor were both born in January '86 so they're only eligible by days. Kid Dynamite 7308
Yeah, makes sense really or you could end up with eleven different players on the field by the time the tournament starts!

The run of games never happened - you said it was on the left of a middle three originally by the way. And I no longer rate Smith although before he came I thought he was a canny player. Nice try though.

Nice try though. you rated smith, so you lose Keegan rates Smith btw. Ok, you should be able to remember a few details. Who were the opponents? Where did you watch these games? What impressed you about N’Zogbia in these performances? Who was the manager? Who was he playing in midfield alongside? Etc. etc. I wouldn’t expect you to know all these things but the odd thing like that would convince me a bit. Given it couldn’t have happened that long ago. Unless you made it up. Unless you made it up. keegan rating smith is a concern to me - it should be to you too if you care about the club. the kid is absolute garbage. to be absolutely frank mate, i couldn't really give a monkeys whether you think i'm making it up. and like i said in the other thread, i can't remember those details - i'm pretty sure it was at the tail end of a recent season - under either roeder or souness (the season before one or the other of them got sacked)... i seem to remember us going on a nice little run which led us to midtable safety with zoggy playing well in centre mid. iirc as part of a midfield 3. you know i live in london and don't have a season ticket. i watch the matches on sky, the internet the odd home game when i'm back up north and away games in london when i can. i'm not trying to convince you of otherwise or that i'm an uber-soopa-fan but i do try and keep on top of what's going on and i'm not making stuff up to some random bloke on a message board - why would i? oh yeah - and nice one for hitting me where it hurts: my knowledge of the under 21s. you on the other hand admitted yourself that you rated smith when he arrived. i'll leave it there
