How long does it take him to get over his injuries? After Valencia we were told 100% he'd be back for Man United. Now he's out of the Bolton game. Personally I doubt we'll see him before Hull.

Prefers the easy games innit. Likes to keep an eye on his goals per game ratio. :D

Michael Owen losing Bolton match fitness bid

Aug 20 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle

KEVIN KEEGAN fears he will still be without his skipper Michael Owen when Newcastle United open their home programme against Bolton Wanderers at St James’s Park on Saturday.

Owen, fellow striker Mark Viduka and defender Claudio Cacapa were United’s three main absentees in Sunday’s excellent 1-1 draw at Old Trafford because of their respective injuries, while Joey Barton is still not considered match fit.

Owen has not had the best of pre-seasons, first going down with the mumps, but it is calf trouble which has seen him maintain his unwanted record of never having started a season for United.

Keegan is always optimistic about his players returning from injury, but when I asked him who would be fit for Saturday, the United boss was certainly pessimistic about Owen.

He told me: “Michael probably won’t be fit, and Mark Viduka certainly won’t be.

“I probably could rush Michael back, and then knock him back five or six weeks.

“And we’re probably strong enough to do without the two of them. But when they come back, it’ll give us a massive boost.

Owen was not considered by England boss Fabio Capello for tonight’s friendly with the Czech Republic at Wembley because of his injury situation.

United do have a Carling Cup tie at Coventry – and what an important game this could turn out to be – in the Midlands on Tuesday night and it remains to be seen what happens with Owen.

It could be that Keegan will keep his skipper back for the trip to Arsenal a week on Saturday.

Meanwhile, I understand that reports suggesting Owen has been offered a new £140,000 a week, £21m, three-year deal by United are wide of the mark.

The Chronicle revealed last night that Steven Taylor expects to be fit for Saturday and Bolton, and at least Viduka is back in training.

Taylor saw his England Under-21 skipper’s armband taken by his United colleague and big pal James Milner in last night’s 2-1 friendly victory over Slovenia at Hull City.

Milner responded by scoring the winner and, although he only played the first half, the word is that this was pre-arranged by Stuart Pearce and there is no injury.

:: UNITED owner Mike Ashley has teamed up with Carling, the club’s official drinks sponsor, to get the first round in at St James’s Park on Saturday.

All fans who enter the stadium before 2.10pm will be given a voucher that will allow them to enjoy a free pint before the match against Bolton Wanderers.

The drinks offer applies to over-18s only. Strictly one voucher per fan. Vouchers can also be redeemed against a soft/hot drink of choice.

Supporters are encouraged to take their seats early ahead of the first home game, and top opera star and big United fan Graeme Danby will get the countdown to kick-off going with another stirring version of The Blaydon Races on the pitch just before the teams emerge from the tunnel.

Got to admit I scour the articles just for that phrase and when I do find them I give a little "Wahey" and then read the story properly :D
