Deano 0
I am encouraged by yesterday but not excited, things are promising but we have to wait and see how we perform against bolton at home which i expect us to up the anti again and how we do at the emirates...then i think it s a good judge on if we can be excited or not. Fop 1
I've always truly believed that confidence is a massive part of success in football. If players believe in themselves then they'll perform. As long as you don't get any Billy Big Bollocks who turn it in to hype then anything is possible with a set of half decent footballers. If the new lads bring in the confidence then you've got the added bonus of players like Duff and N'Zogbia hopefully pulling their games round as well. It's what KK as a manger has always been good at, telling players they're good. You make it sound like he could conjure a 20 goal a season player by saying "Ameobi, you're good!" I know what you mean though. I almost think he can. Or at least given enough time to work with a team instils enough confidence that they think they can be that, and if they get 15 as a result then that's not too bad. Although equally he's always been ruthless enough to get shot of those he didn't think were good enough, or that the team has surpassed.

He's not a miracle worker Yeah I think he's firmly in the out the door camp, but equally if Shola was all he had to work with, I bet he'd get him playing as well as he could. Which is the one glimmer of hope with Smith, I guess.

The Fish 11080
I'm trying desperately to stop my enthusiasm for this season get away from me. The result yesterday had me reassessing my expectations and hopes for the teams progress. It's understandable I suppose, but at the same time, it's one result on the first day of the season. Bolton will be an interesting game, they'll be buoyed by their result and decent first half performance and we'll be buoyed by our defensive play at OT. I'll be curious to see how we set up against a team many of the people I've spoken to have touted for the drop. I reckon we'll beat them and play some good football which brings us to the Arsenal game. Now, they were frustrated by West Brom, couldn't finish them off and I think that if our team works as hard as they did and our forwards have a little more confidence in front of goal I am cautiously optimistic of coming away from the emirates with another unexpected point. ... Lordy dear I'm far too excited for a Monday afternoon
tinofbeans 91
i'm satisfied that keegan has highlighted our problem areas and wants to strengthen them. he knows we need cover at LB, cb and defensive midfield as butts coming to the end of his footballing career. I just wish we could push smith and shola out of the door ad replace them with 2 decent forwards or 1 forward and one midfielder. I also think that the squad is very sharp in terms of fitness. no subs yesterday was a clear indication that keegans drills for sharpening fitness up have worked. now for more creativity! LeazesMag 0
I think for the first time since Robson was in charge we will actually be a "team" rather than a team of individuals. I think many of us, myself included have given alot of squad a bit of a slating in recent years but when you compare player for player (and hopefully we will add another couple of decent players) againt our so called rivals, those chasing a Waffa Cup place, are those teams really that much better than us? Blackburn may have a tough season ahead of them with Ince and the stories of unrest, Sinatras trouble at Man City could affect them, Everton needs players badly as there squad is smaller than ours, Tottenham could be a hit or a miss and I hope there is some legs in the Redknapp to return to West Ham stories as that could put a dent in the progress of Pompey. Though I do think Aston Villa are looking pretty strong. Don't get me wrong I would be delighted with at least 8th this season as long as we are showing signs of progression and perhaps this is knee jerk but I think under Keegan we could be in for a good season and what will make it all the more sweeter is the negative press we continue to get, stories of unrest and both the media and suppporters of other clubs writing off Keegan. Hea hea! Yesterday was my 1st away game and i was amazed at how many fans were somewhat negative before the match, me as always was optimistic of a good performance from the boys and hopeful of a good result! And my faith paid off! Yesterday we showed real promising signs that we are a team, a unit, we are united, in the words of ince at weekend, we showed comradery and spirit and looked very solid at the back (apart from LB) and very slick going forward. We passed the ball well, tracked back and harried well, and on the whole we held our own with the best team in england! If we can take that sort of performance, add a few necessary signings we can all be hopefull of a rather pleasing season indeed. Well done lads... "Ee-Aye Ee-Aye Ee-Aye Oh, Up the premier league we go, when we get to europe, this is what we'll sing, we are geordies, super geaordies...KEEGAN IS OUR KING!" ah, the wonder of youth
