Looking at those pics in the 2008/2009 thread you realise there are far fewer weak links than there have been for a looong time.

Im certainly alot more positive after seeing that game. Shows what influence KK can have. Imagine Fat Sam going there and how defensive we'd have been. We've come along way since getting beat there 6-0 last season. Not getting carried away though. Its a long season and we do need a couple more players in. I think that game showed we need a LB and FW pretty quickly.

the new signings all impressed yesterday but i still think we're a good few players short of being able to compete at the business end of the table. encouraging stuff though - nice to see the keegler with a spring in his step too

A new holding midfielder is a must as Butt will get shown up against the better teams as he did yesterday at times

 

I think Guthrie can fill the creative gap plus Jonas,Zog and Duff also bring creativity to the table

 

We defo need a left back as Zoggy is out of position and it shows, thank fuck Ronaldo didnt play yesterday. Not sure what the probs with Enrique are tho`

 

I would start Zoggy LM and play Jonas down the right

 

Do you think KK will go 4-3-3 again when Vid/Owen are fit??

 

If so I think there will be problems fitting players in, Hope he sticks with 4-4-2 and we get a few quality additions

I think for the first time since Robson was in charge we will actually be a "team" rather than a team of individuals. I think many of us, myself included have given alot of squad a bit of a slating in recent years but when you compare player for player (and hopefully we will add another couple of decent players) againt our so called rivals, those chasing a Waffa Cup place, are those teams really that much better than us?

 

Blackburn may have a tough season ahead of them with Ince and the stories of unrest, Sinatras trouble at Man City could affect them, Everton needs players badly as there squad is smaller than ours, Tottenham could be a hit or a miss and I hope there is some legs in the Redknapp to return to West Ham stories as that could put a dent in the progress of Pompey. Though I do think Aston Villa are looking pretty strong.

 

Don't get me wrong I would be delighted with at least 8th this season as long as we are showing signs of progression and perhaps this is knee jerk but I think under Keegan we could be in for a good season and what will make it all the more sweeter is the negative press we continue to get, stories of unrest and both the media and suppporters of other clubs writing off Keegan.

Yesterday was my 1st away game and i was amazed at how many fans were somewhat negative before the match, me as always was optimistic of a good performance from the boys and hopeful of a good result! And my faith paid off!

 

Yesterday we showed real promising signs that we are a team, a unit, we are united, in the words of ince at weekend, we showed comradery and spirit and looked very solid at the back (apart from LB) and very slick going forward.

We passed the ball well, tracked back and harried well, and on the whole we held our own with the best team in england!

If we can take that sort of performance, add a few necessary signings we can all be hopefull of a rather pleasing season indeed.

As long as he's replaced. KK seems to like him though. He's protentially decent cover if he regains a bit of confidence. Dear in terms of wages and transfer fee for a back-up striker though. And he's awful in midfield so I don't even buy the versatility thing.

Keegan's done a great job, although he did a great job last season turning a team that were looking terminally unmotivated into a threat.

 

The only problem with the squad is that if we have a nasty injury run this season (as we usually do), never mind a run like we had under Roeder, we're going to struggle.

I was going silly last night, but the standard of opposition make it a little more reasonable to do so.

 

I'm more cautious today and remembering we probably played better against Arsenal last season. Just one game against a club without 8 or so first team regulars.

I've always truly believed that confidence is a massive part of success in football. If players believe in themselves then they'll perform. As long as you don't get any Billy Big Bollocks who turn it in to hype then anything is possible with a set of half decent footballers. If the new lads bring in the confidence then you've got the added bonus of players like Duff and N'Zogbia hopefully pulling their games round as well. It's what KK as a manger has always been good at, telling players they're good.

agree. i'm excited by the new players but feel we still need to add more players of a smilar quality. like someone else said above, a few injuries and we could struggle.

 

fair play to keegan though for only buying what look on first impressions like quality players instead of panic buying the usual sort of player we attract just to make up the numbers.
