Steve McClaren sacked as Newcastle United 'Head Coach' (Manager)

What's positive about having to go down to your fifth choice to make a coaching appointment? People out of work and with no experience at all turning us down?

Doesn't bode well for pulling out the stops and refusing to take no for an answer to secure our number one targets on the field does it?

You don't know it's his fifth choice. You are going off tittle tattle and papers. They may have had a shortlist with several on.

What's important is getting a decent back room team in place and by all accounts he has put together a good back room team.

A few weeks back people were thinking that we might still be starting with Carver and Stone.

There's a time for moaning and a time for optimism.

We'll have the same in a couple of months when people will be ignoring the five or six players we've signed and instead moaning about what we didn't get.

The only coach who said no was Steve Round who stated he was looking for a Manager's job. All the rest are pure speculation. Trouble is everyone believes anything and everything in the media without knowing any of the facts.

Round - "“We spoke a couple of days ago and he asked if I’d be interested, but he also knows it’s not what I want to do next,” "

Zenden - "After his appointment we really talked, but it’s not like I’m going there to work,"

Neville and Simpson yet to comment, but they're all clearly more than just names being bandied about.

Jesus, Radar fucking lives for tittle tattle and paper talk but as soon as someone else points to it, it's worthless and should be ignored. What an absolute spunk-gargler.

I chuckled at the irony

It's a fair point, although massively ironic that CT has made it. There has been speculation about a couple of other peopple and Round is the only one who's comments actually look like he's turned us down, and that's because he wants to be the number one. I'm not saying the others haven't but it's very easy these days to dismiss any positive paper talk and while believing all the negatives (of course there is good reason for this).

I'm inclinded to dismiss it all and just look at what we know. If this guy comes in (and nothing's been confirmed yet) he seems to have a good record in his short career. He's clearly well thought of and I take it as a positive that we're apointing someone based on ability rather than because he's a mate of someone. Yes the fact that he's not currently attached anywhere else means we don't have to pay anyone anything for him and I'm sure that is something that was considered, but there must be a lot of other out of work coaches that are more familar names and known to McClaren or whoever that we could have easily picked up if them being free was our only concern. I'm certainly not going to get excited like CT until I see some actually positive movement on the transfer front, but I'm still happy with this appointment if it comes off.

Whether he's first choice or fiftieth, it's a positive appointment of a coach who is, by all accounts, really highly rated.

Ryan Gauld credits Cathro as a key figure in his development, which is heartening.

Everything I've read about him the last couple of days has been good.

Has Gauld actually achieved anything yet?

No, but he's a highly rated young talent, drawing admiring glances from Moyes' Man Utd among others.

Your witness.

Pipe down Dr Robotnik, Gauld is a much lauded talent but he's not yet won any major trophies or awards, so it'd be a little disingenuous if I said he'd achieved something.

Order! Order in the court! Mr Fish, may I remind you that you post on here at Mr Gemmill's pleasure and you would do well to remember that.

You may not.
