ohhh_yeah 2991
Tiago closes on Premier League return Juventus are believed to be willing to allow Tiago to move to England on loan with Newcastle United bidding to fend off rival interest from Everton to land the ex-Chelsea midfielder. Newcastle's bid is further complicated by the fact that Atletico Madrid and Fenerbahce are also in the running and the player is thought to favour Spain as his next destination. However, sources in Turin claim a deal has already been agreed in principle between Juve and Kevin Keegan's side with the final decision down to Tiago himself. The 27-year-old left Chelsea for Lyon in 2005 but has failed to impress at Juventus since joining the club last year. Newcastle are still trying to strengthen their squad ahead of Sunday's opener at Manchester United while Everton have lost Lee Carsley and Thomas Gravesen this summer. Atletico could yet have the final say if they can come to an agreement with Juventus but the signs are that they will have to move quickly to head off the interest from England. Craig 6700
Mourinho is said to say not keeping hold of Tiago at Chelsea was one of his biggest regrets. Moved on because he wasn't getting enough first team football. Take him on loan until January and see how he goes IMO
Guest alex
Would help with ball retention / playing the ball through the midfield imo.
Stephen 0
I liked him at Chelsea, though he didn't get that many chances due to the numbers in midfield. Very tidy player.

marci 0
The goal.com article with details about the possible deal. According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Portuguese midfielder Tiago Mendes is on the verge of signing for Newcastle United after the Premiership club came to an agreement with Juventus. Tiago only joined the Bianconeri from Lyon last year, however he has flopped dreadfully in Turin, and has failed miserably to live up to his €13m transfer fee. Juve have been attempting to offload him since January of this year, with Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid both unsuccessfully tabling offers. Now it seems as if the Italian giants have finally found a buyer who satisfies both themselves and Tiago, and this buyer is Newcastle United. The Magpies have had a disappointing summer transfer campaign with few, if any, notable signings, and supporters have been getting increasingly frustrated with the club’s owner Mike Ashley, and transfer chief Dennis Wise. The Gazzetta claims that Newcastle have now come to an agreement with Juventus that will see Tiago move to St James Park on a one-year loan deal, with the Premiership club then having the option to make the move permanent next summer for a fee of €10m. Juventus tonight take on Artmedia in the Champions League third qualifying round, and Tiago is unlikely to feature in order to avoid him being cup-tied from Europe. With Newcastle not in continental competition this year, this will probably prove irrelevant, but Juve still wish to safeguard themselves should this transfer fall through. David Kelly 1260
I'm sure I could think of players I would rather have but whether or not we could get them would be another question. Would be an improvement over what we have and loan would be a great bit of business.

Craig 6700
Newcastle have a deal in place to sign 27-year-old Juventus and former Chelsea midfielder Tiago Mendes. The Portuguese international will join on an initial one-year loan deal with a view to an £8m permanent move.
