JawD 99
I thought Id only watch this when there was nowt on. Found myself glued to the box each morning. So far been following the rowing, boxing, archery and swimming. Great going from the lasses like to get the medals in the pool. Not their strongest event either. sweetleftpeg 0
Also, Tom Daley in "not actually the second coming" shocker. What was canny funny about that is that they were all reporting he'd finished 8th. Which sounds pretty good. Except there was only 8 in it. It's great stuff like that man. They're proper dedicated athletes as well with years of hard work for little or no attention from the vast majority of the media and so on. It was great when she got off the bike and she was just sort of shrieking Like you say, very genuine.

It's where they lose all sense that they're being watched and just react. It's like how goal celebrations used to be, not the pre-planned choreographed reach-around they are now. Yup, although equally it speaks volumes about the appalling state of UK athletics that she can be in an Olympic squad and not have full time funding. Compared to say Chinese competitors that have likely been doing nothing else but their event from birth.
Smooth Operator 10
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/diving/7552526.stm Sour grapes from the 14 year old kids diving partner me thinks, from what I saw this morning the kid out performed his partner, for a kick off the youn un was making next to no splash on entry whereas his partner wasn't far from emptying the pool. The more i think about this the more is pisses me off, hope the fucka is in the individual event and the young lad beats him good and proper. If there was a gold medal for a 1st glass arsehole event he'd win hands down.

Smooth Operator 10
Is there an unwritten rule that you have to me a massive boiler to win a Olympic medal for GB? Compared to say Chinese competitors that have likely been doing nothing else but their event from birth. Aye, that's it. There'll be plenty of accusations of Chinese druggery when they top the medals table by a mile, and there'll undoubtedly be a few cases of that kind of thing, but by and large it's just a combination of sheer commitment, drive and funding (well, and fear ). Take the synchronised divers this morning, they were just a class above anything else the rest of the world had to offer. It's frightening, but then again, the biggest population in the world should be churning out that kind of athlete, I suppose.
tinofbeans 91
good to see us win 2 golds. neither of the girls are going to be meeja darlings though. one of thems got a very hydrodynamic nose ( or one that could open bottles tbh!) as for that diving, we weren't at the races to mix metaphors. chinese were a different class. I remember watching a documentary about some sport (I forget which now, I suspect it doesn't matter really) ages ago about the Chinese system, and how they had masses of recruits from a really early age and then basically whittled them down in a Darwinian fashion, but we're talking about 100's in each age group being supported for a decade or more. And by "supported" I mean that was their life, utterly. Basically think of their Panda breeding program, then apply it to sports.
