But the British lass hit the skeet thing cos a bit flew off it when you watched the replay, but the judges missed it. And they wouldn't listen when she was telling them. It was sudden death so that was the end and she got silver.

There's been a lot of this from the BBC commentators imo. Basically gaslighting the viewer into thinking that the British athlete still has much more of a chance than they do.

We're never gonna see another Bolt in our life times are we? I noticed yesterday that the women's record is still from 1988 from Florence Griffith Joyner. 36 years is a long time for a record to stand. Correct me if I'm worng, but there's some suspicion on her because of her cause of death?
Meenzer 15524
There's a general acceptance that her world record was heavily wind-assisted and the equipment malfunctioned on the day, but (aside from that) she certainly made very quick progress in the 100m having previously been a 200m specialist, then retired abruptly not long after Seoul and, of course, died young. No smoking gun, but given we know men's sprinting at the time was rotten to the core, and the Eastern European women weren't exactly clean as a whistle, you have to assume she was probably at it too.

Yeah, apparently so. I might be being a bit harsh on her - Hudson-Smith has made massive improvements just by learning what vegetables are and not having to fly his mother out to his training camp to cook for him, after all.

Did you see his interview after the heat yesterday? That man is not a thinker. Generally speaking, I think insisting that an out of breath athlete who just wants to get back to the village has to talk to you is bollocks, but most of them manage to string a sentence together.

Gemmill 44853
What is it with our pole vaulters? The last one used to do this too, but this one has the leading height this year and was a proper medal hope. She nearly landed in the pole pit on her last effort.

It's doubly galling because it turns out a first-time clearance at 4.40 (!) would have been enough to get into the final, and Caudery was literally the only one who didn't come in until 4.55. There's nothing wrong with being confident as the world lead, but surely you'd look around at experienced people like Moon, Kennedy, Stefanidi, Murto, all of them deciding to have a go at 4.40, and think to yourself "maybe I should play it safe too?". Plus you've got Bradshaw struggling under the conditions, and Caudery literally went over and comforted her after she went out, so it's not like she was unaware. Baffling.
