I signed up for sky with the 5 variety packs for £20 and mid broadband for £5 two months ago.

All in all a fairly affordable £25 a month.

I got a letter today saying they are putting the price up to £36. . . . just cos :headphonedance:

How the fuck can they justify an £11 a month increase!!!

Anyone else got a letter today?

I've not had any satellite/cable in for years. Haven't missed it a bit.

I visited a mates for the weekend a few weeks back and we must have watched 6 hours of a show about how stuff is made. I was impressed by how they make paintballs, but it's not something I really needed to know. I'd much rather the £400+ a year went on a holiday or something.

to be honest I'd expect Sky to be the first thing people get shot of during this tighter time, seems counter intuitive to raise prices. If you cast your eyes around it seems many vendors are pumping out the message that their products aren't going to price you out of house and home. From DFS to ASDA

Be funny if loads of people cancelled Sky as a result like.

Do you hate Rupert Murdoch? :headphonedance:

Go to a really run down council estate, then count the number of Sky dishes...... having said that with freeview (and certainly the new HD satellite freeview) they maybe running a risk.

My mate 'acquired' a box for a £75 one-off payment that gave you every single channel going. Including all the PPV events and even the Frankie Vaughan (which is apparently shite anyway). I was thinking about getting one. I think you need to have cable btw.

oh I know that they're everywhere, but as you say, with the freeview system I could see a lot of them giving up the full package. After all, you can still get a stack of chav channels on freeview. Jeremy Kyle-a-go-go!

isn't there a freesat system on the cards, which will up the amount of channels yet again?

Don't like the way Sky have way too much influence over English football. I'm not a Luddite and I don't think everything about the PL or Sky's coverage and the money they've contributed to it etc. is all bad by any means but I wouldn't mind seeing their influence and financial clout diminished somewhat. I also think there's far too much football on the box. Live Conference matches man, wtf?

I don't mind football 24/7 on the box, but I can't think of a way of having that without it having a ruinous effect on attendances and the Americanisation of the sport.

Whats wrong with live conference matches ;)

I saw Blyth for the first time ever on TV last year in Setanta!

Aye, but you support Blyth :headphonedance:

I'd rather people went and watched local football though tbh.

I pretty much agree with all that.

Not fussed how much football is on telly like. All games should be on a Saturday at 3PM or a Wednesday at 7.45PM though, which is the only qualm I have with Sky/Setanta.

I think Fop was hoping I would say 'yes' so he could draw parallels with Bill Gates.

Not really the point I was making like ;)

Be honest though, I bet you like going on occasion for the banter and you appreciate how quick the game is, the lack of time and space etc when you're there too. But fuck me, it looks shit on the telly man. It's nearly as bad as Matt watching MLS.

I'm on the same package as J69 but without the broadband. Quietly relieved that the panic is over now. :headphonedance:

I'm not sure Sky will be the first thing people get rid of in the recession, to be honest. If you're having to stay at home more because you can't afford to travel/eat out/go to the pub as much, you'll at least want something on the box.

Fair point, but if the cost for Sky is £400 a year, compared to £30 for freeview? The type of people who would benefit most from ditching Sky are the people who are want to watch the itv channels, E4 and the like. I don't predict it being the History channel buffs missing out on turkey trwizzlers so they can catch their favourite show.
