Park Life 71
Before this breaks out into a newspapers are against us (yawn) let's pretend we were interested in Aimar and KK wanted him, but the wage demand was too high. He apparently asked for £70k+ Personally I would have paid it. Edited July 18, 2008 by T-Keith
TheMoog 0
No, I wouldn't have paid 70k pw for him, he's not been consistantly good enough over the last 2 years to warrant that sort of wage. £45k tops would have been my offer

Park Life 71
I'd have offered 60k probablybut with our squad and benfica and co trying to snap him up too if they came back and said 70k i'd have give him it whats 10k a week extra for a worldclass player when our squads so depleted and has no creativity and if it was such a big deal i'd have alan smith killed to make up the difference on the wage budget :D

ewerk 31596
£60k, or possibly something a bit lower with performance related pay to take it up should he be doing well.
Park Life 71
50k a week at the most. Your havin a laugh? 40 odd caps for Argentina, still only 28. The Aimar project would have been on a par with the Ronny project at AC. A player who re-energised is one of the best in the world at what he does. I would have given him the money, sincerely. When you look at how much we have and still do pay some players and in many example what we get for that, £75k would have probably been a bargain for us. This is what slightly concerns me with the wage structure thing, even after the inevitably difficult conversion (and it will be, it probably is in fact now in this transfer window and maybe for the next couple of seasons), we're still going to have to pay over the odds because of the clubs location, and relative lack of success. Just saying we won't may well mean we simple can't attract who we want.

JawD 99
Two chocolate buttons and a frog. Per week that is. Oh ok then, Im also for structured wages not all up front. I believe all up front leaves no incentive. So, Id rather see something like a £30k/w basic + win bonus, goal bonus, clean sheet bonus etc. Then cup run bonus's, table finish bonus, qualify for europe bonus etc.

Everton ousted Liverpool how long ago was that? You either make an exception for top talent and compete or you don't. Agree? And is Aimar's recent inj record that bad? Do you know? If it isn't why would it be an issue?

Wages at Spurs are tiny squad wide (Keane 35k, Lennon 25k), but they make a good case. They also made exceptions for Berbatov and now Modric is on a fair whack. Everton have also been quite careful in the markets and I'm sure they don't pay big wages either. So it can be done.
