Bassong on trial at Newcastle

Been offered a new deal which is considerably more than what he's on now.

source?

Some lad on Skunkers. It could be bollocks but since he wasn't met with dozens of posts telling him to "fuck off and die in a house fire" he could be right. Actually, I do get the feeling he's been spot on with stuff like this before although I can't remember any particular post off the top of my head.

Here's the post...

been offered a new contract by nufc circa 20-25K a week

arsenal, tottenham, villa and man citeh all interested - shearer has placed a £15million price tag on him - whether he used one of them guns you see them doing that in the co-op with is unclear

If true also pretty much confirms Shearer has accepted the job.

EDIT - The poster lives in the same building as him so he's been chatting to his lass and the lad who Bassong rents the flat off.

I'd love us to hang onto bassong, beye and Taylor tbh also as Fish's point I would like to see some of the youngsters blooded into the team to see what they are like (also to give some of them an incentive to stay). I know Giles Barnes is at Fulham on loan atm with option to buy anyone know if they are going to use that option? (since he hasn't appeared this season iirc) he could be the sort of player to look at seems like a decent young winger especially in the championship.

we need a nucleus of very good players at the back bearing in mind our forward line will probably fuck off in the coming weeks.

I'm assuming that we'll need at least 4 strikers at the club. I'm presuming that ate least Owen, Viduka and Martins will be gone. I'm Hoping that Shola will be gone.

Leaving us with Carrrrrrolllllll and Xisco (who I'd be surprised if he stayed... but ya never know)

I'd like us to sell before we buy... I know this is dangerous, but I think we need to know what the bones of the squad are going to be, before we build upon them. I think we should also build from the back. Do we want Harper first choice or Krul? Is our back four to be Beye, Taylor, Bassong, Enrique (fingers crossed), With Butt and Duff confirming their intentions to stay what will our midfield look like? Should we include the likes of Vooskitche (sp?) finally given the 9 men behind them, what do we need from a striking partnership?

but then... that's just me. (and my all conquering football management style  )

When I saw he'd been included in the Cameroon squad, it helped. Cameroon won't really care whether he's playing in the Premiership or the Championship, there's not that many good young Cameroonian centre-backs around so he should play for them regardless. If he was playing for France, then he'd have to play in the Premiership to get a chance. Now, there's more of a chance of him staying. Good news.

NEWCASTLE warned the vultures circling defender Sebastien Bassong they will not take anything less than £15million for him.

French ace Bassong, 22, was a rare shining light for Toon but vowed to quit if they were relegated.

Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa are keen but Alan Shearer insists no one will leave on the cheap if he takes over full-time.

The club is expected to open talks with Bassong, who currently earns just £5,000 a week, over an improved deal.

Shearer has yet to confirm he is staying as boss but his close pal and ex-Toon star Rob Lee said: “Alan should stay. The club needs rebuilding.

“It’s disappointing but in the long term it might be a blessing in disguise, to take one step back to get two steps forward.”

I wouldn't take 15m for Bassong now.

I would if it there was a signed agreement from Ashley that every single penny would be re-invested in new players.

His wages are low and he will grow in value.

Wouldn't trust MA with a penny of the money either.

It's hardly going to grow much more than 15m, especially as we'll have such a reduced amount of media coverage in the Championship. Who was the last championship defender to be valued at 5m, never mind 15m?

From the sale of one player, we'd have a kitty that most Championship teams would envy.

Agree with you on the trusting MA bit though.

Aye, if you consider our record sale is Jonathan Woodgate to Real for £13.4million, I doubt we'll get £15mill for Bassong when we're a championship club and he's probably aching to leave. Although with £16million for Darren Bent, anything is possible I suppose.

He is class and we need him and he's cheap. Don't imagine the club would turn it down, just saying I would.

Certainly wouldn't turn it down but definitley can't think of a club who would pay that sort of money for a player when he's not worth it.

Oh hang on, City. Perfect.

Christ, this is the club that sold one of the best keepers in the country, in his prime, with time still on his contract, to the richest club in the world, for £5m.
