Liverpool have agreed a fee with Newcastle United for the transfer of Danny Guthrie to the North East.

The former Academy player, who spent last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers, will now discuss personal terms with Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan before finalising the deal.

Liverpool FC Head of Press Ian Cotton said: "We have agreed a transfer fee with Newcastle United for the transfer of Danny Guthrie.

"We have now given Newcastle permission to speak directly with the player."

SCOTT CARSON is set to depart Anfield as Rafa Benitez attempts to raise the funds he needs to make an offer for top target Robbie Keane.

The England international keeper is likely to follow Danny Guthrie through the exit door after Liverpool accepted an offer from Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle for the midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Bolton.

Am really really surprised by this. Guthrie didn't impress me at all. He came on the scene last season and looked very good, but he never had a good game from October to May. I really can't believe Newcastle have signed him. I thought their owner was mega rich, sounds like they are doing things on the cheap.

Poor poor signing IMO. Am so glad we didn't sign him permanently.

Seen him play on a dozen occasions and I didn't really rate him, too much of a headless chicken and no end product. I think Mego had already made up his mind not to buy him and this bid, if true, at least saves us from signing someone who would add little to the squad IMO.

Great...

why does it matter so much? he'll only be a squad player and if he's there to add depth to the side his signing can't be too bad a thing to happen.

exactly plus the lads only 21, he could well get turned into a decent player

Afternoon fellas, can't be bothered reading all 26 comments so far, so apologies if I've repeated anything said already.

Guthrie will be a quality signing. He's youthful and full of energy. Wasn't long ago he was touted as the 'next Gerrard'.

The only reason he didn't get much time on the pitch with us is because our midfield consisted of Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Sissoko (to a point, but after nearly going blind he turned into a bag of ****).

He obviously wasn't going to get much game time, but at Bolton, he proved to everyone who watches football that he has got what it takes to become a VERY good player.
