Park Life 71
I've always dreamed that Newcastle United would set the Premier League alight....... The Bin Laden Group (aka Saudi Royals) makes MA's money look like pennies. I for one hope it happens. Was that a whoosh ?
Hadrian 0
its all about the land , and thats where ashleys 420million pricetag comes from . ashley can build on that himself if he wants and none of the income from it would have to go towards the club now if he didnt want it , unlike the plc days . might be wrong , but sure freddy owns a bit of the land we would need to expand into , in one of his other companys names , so it didnt get sold with the club like the rest of the land thats going tobe developed, he'd be due a lump sum if we wanted it . again, maybe wrong on that one like . ohhh_yeah 2991
Newcastle deny Bin Laden link but Saudi buyers are interested Suggestions that a company run by relatives of Osama bin Laden could be poised to buy Newcastle United were dismissed as "absolute nonsense" yesterday. That two-word response from a club spokesman to inquiries about mooted takeovers is threatening to turn into a soundtrack to the close season at St James' Park but Newcastle's stock denial has been contradicted by another purported purchaser. On Friday Newcastle maintained that reports of the club being offered to the New York-based finance company InterMedia Partners for £420m were "absolute nonsense" but a day later a spokesman for the US private equity firm made a conflicting statement. "InterMedia was approached about a deal, made no offer and has no interest," he said. With City of London sources repeatedly indicating that Mike Ashley, Newcastle's owner and the billionaire founder of Sports Direct, is seeking a buyer for the club he bought only last summer, now would surely be an opportune moment for Ashley or Derek Llambias, Newcastle's new managing director, to offer some public clarification as to their intentions. So far, though the silence from the boardroom has been not only deafening but confusing. Twenty-four hours on from InterMedia's admission of an approach from Tyneside, it was reported that the Saudi Binladen Group (SBG), a Jeddah-based, multinational construction company whose chief executive, Bakr bin Laden, is the half-brother of the world's most wanted man, is pondering a potential £300m bid for Newcastle. Meanwhile the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) is also believed to be considering making an offer. The Bin Laden family distanced itself from the al-Qaida founder some time before Osama claimed responsibility for the events of September 11 2001 and SBG would comfortably pass the "fit and proper person" test required to satisfy the Premier League before English club takeovers are approved. As with the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, SBG is reputedly attracted not just by Newcastle United but by the possibility of lucratively redeveloping land around St James' Park's prime city centre site. Ashley's paramount immediate concern at Newcastle appears to be lowering the wage bill and Obafemi Martins, the Nigeria striker, is duly upset by the club's failure to follow up preliminary discussions regarding his request for a new, improved, contract worth upwards of £80,000 a week. Martins, who remains very much on Arsenal's radar, is determined to force talks with directors this week.

So this week it's the club is being sold to the scum of the earth (either Bin Ladin or 'mericans). ohhh_yeah 2991
Mike Ashley facing test of Tyne Martin Samuel According to sources in the City, the price quoted for the purchase of Newcastle United is in the region of £400 million. Sadly, that is not the only ludicrous figure attached to the club these days . When Mike Ashley, the owner, arrives for the first match of the new season dressed in his black and white replica shirt and ready to join the Toon Army in another chorus of “Walking In A Keegan Wonderland”, how will he be received? There is a credibility issue as dense as the fog on the Tyne for him now. Does Ashley want to sell? His people say no, but a pesky little group called InterMedia Partners claims to have been approached by an intermediary with a view to buying Ashley’s share for about three times his purchase price. Unsurprisingly, considering the doubt surrounding the structure of the club and its long-term prospects, it declined. If Ashley wishes to cash in early, Kevin Keegan, the club’s manager, may have queered his pitch. The little speech about how far Newcastle are behind the clubs at the top of the Barclays Premier League, how futile is the chase and how much money it would cost to put them on an even footing will have done for potential buyers what an immovable listed tree making cracks in the main supporting wall will do for your house price. Everyone now knows that, according to the expert employed by Ashley to restore the good old days when the club were a force in the English game, to reestablish Newcastle in that elite group would require a long-term plan of incalculable cost. Maybe it is that knowledge that is worrying Keegan’s boss. If so, saving money from the petty cash, with talk of players buying their own club suits, is hardly going to balance the books. These rumours of cut and run are surfacing too frequently to be casually dismissed and, even so, this regime has form for saying one thing and doing another, from the time of Sam Allardyce’s departure. Having played the honorary Geordie card so brazenly in his first year, it is going to take more than another raid on the club shop to convince the locals of Ashley’s sincerity second time around. If he is foursquare behind his investment, as he wishes us to believe, he has an increasingly strange way of showing it. If he is trying to get out, then all that fancy dress and mugging for the camera on match days will not obscure the truth. They are a devoted bunch at St James’ Park, but they are not fools. What are the examples of this regime saying one thing and doing another? I remember Shepherd promising world class signings and bringing in Sibierski and Bernard, but I have no recollection of being let down by any promises in the last year. He's right about one thing, we aren't fools. That's why we ignore every story in his shitty little rag about a different buyer being lined up every week for the last 6 months. Happy Face 29
The only quote I can find from the time of the buyout is... "The board believes that SJHL and Mike Ashley will be excellent custodians of Newcastle United's heritage and will provide the best possible opportunity for the club to flourish in the future, to the benefit of the company and its fans." And in their first season we finished higher than we had in the previous. So there's not really been any let downs. In finding the quote I also found the first mention of Ashley selling up... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ted/6956540.stm Almost a year ago now. We should celebrate the bullshit anniversary
