Everton have confirmed Steve Round as their new assistant manager after completing intense negotiations with his former club Newcastle United.

The 37-year-old joins up with the Merseyside club after spending one season at St James' Park and will fill the number two role under David Moyes.

Round was former Magpies boss Sam Allardyce's first appointment to his coaching staff at Newcastle last year.

Round said: "Once David asked me and I met him, it was a definite."

A compensation deal is believed to have been thrashed out allowing Round to leave the north east after the Magpies had blocked previous attempts to conclude the move because they insisted he was not out of contract.

Moyes had been without a deputy since Alan Irvine left to take over as Preston manager in November.

Will Round be a good signing for Everton?

Burton-on-Trent-born former full-back Round was forced to retire from playing at Derby through injury after making just nine league appearances.

He then worked as a coach with the Rams and worked again with Steve McClaren when he took over at Middlesbrough. He was also part of the England backroom set-up under the former national coach.

Round had continued working for Middlesbrough but left when Gareth Southgate took over as boss before being recruited by Allardyce.

Fuck Steve Round.

Good to see Terry Mac has kept doing what he does best (whatever that is) all these years and is now back in his rightful position as the number 2 man in Toon.
