I used to find the media tiresome, now they're just laughable and i don't give them a second thought really. This club is now a completely different organisation to the farcial media circus it used to be and they don't have gobshites and officials giving them ammunition all the time so in a collective strop they've decided to bombard us with non stop bullshit and shitstirring instead.

They seem to have some sort of wheel of stroies they keep repeating in slightly different formats. So having done Ahsley selling the club for about the 12th time, it'll be followed soon by another of the Keegan vs Wise, Keegan vs Ashley, Keegan vs everyone at the club, players vs manager, or any other combination of people apparently at war with each other...then they'll do a selling Martins story as that occurs every week or two, then it'll be some leak from an insider or source close to the manager/chaiman etc. (ie a lie) and then it'll be some made up transfer links followed by returning to Ashley selling the club again!

They don't know what's happing at the club anymore and people should ignore all the shite they come up with. It was proven when not one part of the media had remotely linked us to the Spanish winger, they hadn't a clue then suddenly its all done and dusted and they were caught out completely.

As all the sensible people have said, Ashley will certainly consider and possibly sell if a great big offer comes in offering a massive profit, and why shouldn't he, but he hasn't been looking to sell and isnt hawkign the club round to all comers and apart from this current story where some people may have contacted the club possibly, the rest have by and large been utter bollocks.

I would say there`s some truth in this as it won`t seem to go away and it could be good for the club.

This mass denial is great ... haven`t seen it in such abundance since Heysel.

From the "It's not our fault the wall fell down" crowd? B)

I don't think there is any truth in it at all. If Ashley was desperate to sell he would've snapped their hands off when they offered £320 million as that's still going to give him a tidy profit on what he bought the club for. Instead he upped it to a completely astronomical figure which only a handful of clubs in the world could justify being bought for and unsurprisingly the Yanks ran away.

That says to me he's not interested in selling at all unless the offer is too good to refuse.

Ashley's nothing but a front for extraterrestrial football fans anyway. Want proof? Just decode the corn-circles.

I'm just wondering, if any businessman worth his salt knows that paying off all the debt would double the value of the business, why didn't the previous owners do just that? Especially the Halls who sold their stake in the club willingly.

because they didn't have the money ?

Do you think expanding the stadium was the wrong thing to do then ?

Whats your opinion on the Halls itching to sell and Shepherd wanting to carry on, if Ashley also sells and makes big bucks ?

B)

Of course I don't. Don't be so defensive.

Your point always seems to be that every club with an ounce of success is ran from a position of monumental debts. His actions would suggest he wants the club in a position to be sold at a profit if needs be, whether or not he actually intends to sell any time soon.

If any businessman knows paying off the debt increases the value for sale, John Hall missed a trick when he sold his shares on to Ashley. His personal fortune would easily cover it.

But it doesn't /really/ double our value

yes it makes us more financially stable etc and won't be paying interest

but will we nowl turn a big profit winning nothing and finishing midtable? no

which basically makes us an expensive club with a big following who have a slim chance of winning anything without investment in players and more money spent.

Owners of clubs don't really make money unless the clubs really successfull and realllllly marketable (ala manutd/beckham/asia etcetc)

and even then you need to pile on the cash to keep the big names happy, and keep them there to sell the shirts etc

hence why rich people own clubs and not people have been made rich by owning clubs.

if your a billionaire and can afford to lose a few quid and someone said

"heres two clubs same price, first one hasn't won anything since the 60's isn't in europe and has a small average squad with a couple of high earners but a large following esp locally, the other has quite alot of debt but has a host of footballs top recognized names/internationals, it has one many major trophies and qualifies for european competition every year and has large following around the globe"

your going go for the one that is going put your face in the paper and get ya to the odd trophy ceremony.. unless you have ties to the debt free club

imo Ashley didn't realise how bad the finances were till he bought the club, now he's cleaning it up and trying to make it look a bit more spick and span incase someone might wanna buy it, and wants to cut back on the amount he's having to spend in the meantime.

would he take a small loss or a small profit for the club and sell it on now.... damm right he would

(and any shrewd business man who is in it to make money and not because they're a fan of the club would do and all)

In short if you're not competitive at the higher levels you can't develop the brand or revenue streams. In our position not spending isn't really an option.

I wouldn't disagree with most of that. Ashley is certainly building up the club to make it a more saleable prospect, but that has always been my point. From a football supporters point of view though, I would prefer him to get a winning team on the pitch, and that - as regards to clubs like Newcastle - makes them a more saleable prospect too.

Only people who understand football can understand this, football isn't a normal business, it can't be where there are 90-odd clubs competing and only a handful are "successful". Being among the top 5 B) "businesses" in any other business would certainly be deemed a success.

Regarding SJH, did he still have this fortune before he sold the club ? And yes, he must indeed be a truly thick idiot to leave a multi million pound business totally in the hands of someone else with less shares, but again I've always said this would not be the case either.
