zico martin 95
certainly would be good business for ashley if true, making over 200 million in a year for not actually doing that much! Exactly. You have to ask yourself it it was totally made up why they didn't bother to make the price more realistic. ie £300m Erm, let's have a think...why would The Sun sensationalise something they probably made up? No, you're probably right. Just saying I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand if you take a look at Ashley's business history. but isnt it similar to (hypothetically) putting a price on Oba Martins head of £20M? I doesnt mean we're trying to sell him, quite the opposite but if we were offered silly money..

But I don't see how the figure the Sun is quoting makes it any more believable than anything else they claim to have the inside track on about us. You seemed to be saying the figure back up there claims somewhat though. In all actuality Ashley is a businessman and if a good offer came in he would sell. At some point he will sell regardless of what figures are banded about, that's no reason for us to worry or feel defensive. There will be other owners and other chairman. Howay 12496
Sources in America confirmed that the US company held initial talks, but Newcastle have not commented. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ted/7489444.stm I'm still unsure tbh really can't trust the media as these "sources" might be as reliable as the 'toon insiders' that told the Sun Barton had been sacked. If the BBC arent covering a big story and everybody else is, they will rehash the details so they dont lose out on readers. Happened the other day with the Keane story (thats gone quiet by the way). Rule of thumb - No quotes = No story. Edited July 4, 2008 by Danny B

There isn't much to the story like 'A US source...' etc. Even if it's true, I agree with your point about the price, i.e. who wouldn't sell for that sort of profit? Even if they weren't initially thinking about selling.

How on earth is the selling of Newcastle on the same level as selling a player?

The sale of newcastle is a bigger deal to me than a Hull supporter, similarly the keane story means fuck all to me really, they are both as relevant in (fabricated) news stories though.
