Happy Face 29
You're right. I apologise for my stupidity. I'll get Linux downloaded when I get in. TBH I wouldn't. Okay then, from now on I'll just wring my fist with bitterness whenever I hear the word 'Gates' while continuing to use his monopoly creating products. Fop 1
You're right. I apologise for my stupidity. I'll get Linux downloaded when I get in. TBH I wouldn't. Okay then, from now on I'll just wring my fist with bitterness whenever I hear the word 'Gates' while continuing to use his monopoly creating products. I do genuinely love this. I "can't" have an opinion on here without somehow having some raging personal issue with a person or group. Like I said Gates is what he is, money doesn't wash away sin, but then neither is he the . As for Microsoft they are a ruthless company that have illegally (in the USA and EU) used their monopoly - that is fact. But equally that doesn't mean I want to "kill" them or anything. I'd not like to see MS disappear, but I would like to see a genuine desktop competitor (or two) and for MS desktop market share to drop to something much closer to 50%. That would simply be best for everyone, and massively encourage technological development, it probably wouldn't even hit MS's profits all that much. None of that has much to do with a not needing to be any more a nerd to use something like PCLinuxOS than you need to be a nerd to use windows XP or Vista (although once upon a time you would have been called that for using windows ). Although from an "eco" "ethical" "socialist" point of view PCLinuxOS is well ahead, being open source, "free" (in all contexts) and in fact basically a garden shed operation in many ways (which is impressive when you compare it to the MS economic juggernaut or even Linux distros with decent financial backing). There's a difference between not being interested (although you are posting ), and what Happy Face and Rob are doing/saying. They are displaying varying levels of both stupidity and ignorance. Meenzer 15873
Would posting "I'm not interested" be more valid if it was in the context of wanting you not to waste your breath preaching to the unconvertible? I'm sure you have better things to do with your time, after all.

I'm sure you have better things to do with your time, after all. Considering you've just posted you've kinda undermined your own point, but it is a bit bizarre the OS's can be a religion (and effectively they can - it's probably harder to get someone to swap religion than to get them to swap OS ). I am slightly bemused about Alex's disinterest though, I've never met an accountant whose ears didn't perk up at the sound of "free" (well apart from fees etc.). I do and am, but this doesn't take much time (it's amazing what you can do in-between pointless arguing on a message board) and is more relaxing and fun than a cigarette break (especially as I don't smoke). Beside it is a good cause.

Fop 1
A tad ironic, I'd say. Yup it is very much so - just not in the way you mean. But on the upside you always know you've completely won an argument here when it descends (ascends?) into this.

You'll know doubt claim you will, but just so there's no doubt I meant it's ironic that you would sarcastically refer to others' posts as 'the humour of the Gods' when you try really hard to be funny yet never succeed. Happy Face 29
This could go gold. Fops greatest contradictions for the sake of keeping up his pissy fit... ON MS: "Microsoft is built upon the most "unethical" (i.e. most ruthless, illegal, destructive, and self-centred) business model around " "Microsoft have operated every bit as badly as they could in their specific field" “the stuff MS have done regarding 3rd world access to technology is nothing short of shameful” “not that I begrudge MS their money” On Gates: "[Gates has]got a big job to dig himself out of his karmic hole before he's even on to positive ground." "you lot think I "hate" Bill Gates. I admire him " On Windows Vs Linux “was sorting out a pretty high spec laptop with vista on last week, and it would have flew with Win XP on but it nearly got thrown out of the window a few times due to its incessant slowness. Stuck a linux liveCD in just to see, and it flew with that (detected and got wireless up straight away too)” “people like you will never even try it (PCLinuxOS)” “TBH I wouldn't.” I know...refer to your sig. Fop 1
This could go gold. Fop 1
This could go gold. Fops greatest contradictions for the sake of keeping up his pissy fit... Ah I'm having a "pissy fit" now am I? Thanks for telling me I did wonder. ON MS:"Microsoft is built upon the most "unethical" (i.e. most ruthless, illegal, destructive, and self-centred) business model around " "Microsoft have operated every bit as badly as they could in their specific field" “the stuff MS have done regarding 3rd world access to technology is nothing short of shameful” “not that I begrudge MS their money” MS are utterly ruthless and unethical and did create a business model that many have followed, they've done some bad things (and still are) and many illegal things, but I don't really begrudge them their cash, nor do I want to see them destroyed (although the US courts recommendation they should be split into 3 companies was a good one), I just would like them forced to play fair (open code and compatibility up) and not abuse their monopoly, and for there to be more/any competition for them. So what's your point? (besides being genuinely obsessed enough to read back and compile all that of course. ) On Gates: "[Gates has]got a big job to dig himself out of his karmic hole before he's even on to positive ground." "you lot think I "hate" Bill Gates. I admire him " He does, he's done a lot of nasty stuff, money doesn't wash that away, that doesn't mean I "hate" him or anything else you want to invent. So what's your point? (besides being genuinely obsessed enough to read back and compile all that of course. ) On Windows Vs Linux “was sorting out a pretty high spec laptop with vista on last week, and it would have flew with Win XP on but it nearly got thrown out of the window a few times due to its incessant slowness. Stuck a linux liveCD in just to see, and it flew with that (detected and got wireless up straight away too)” “people like you will never even try it (PCLinuxOS)” “TBH I wouldn't.” Er.... there's nothing even to argue with there. Yes it was much faster (even running off a CD) and no people like you and Rob won't. So what's your point? (besides being genuinely obsessed enough to read back and compile all that of course. ) I know...refer to your sig. Fop 1
That you're saying nothing nobody already knows, but constantly tempering your level of outrage to suit your contrary nature. Nothing nobody already knows.... that would surely BE the point wouldn't it? And my level of "outrage" is about the same as my level of "hate" and "pissy fit". I never said you hate him. True, but you clearly imply it: Okay then, from now on I'll just wring my fist with bitterness whenever I hear the word 'Gates' while continuing to use his monopoly creating products. My point is you alternately vilify and pay respect to the man to suit your contrary nature. Nope I said he's admirable in a purely business/making money/doing whatever to succeed sense, but there's a lot more to the world than that. But there's lots of people that are very unadmirable in many ways that are still admirable in some specific or otherwise ways.... you're just trying to build a very shaky strawman.... I admire your effort even if I think it's pretty pointless. You missed of the last quote, where you said you wouldn't either. Were you saying you wouldn't use Linux, or that Linux isn't user friendly enough for lay people like me and Rob? I said "TBH I wouldn't" to you downloading linux (see my sig ), as frankly I'm somewhat amazed you can use a PC at all, you clearly have trouble with reading, remembering, comprehension and many other things that require knowledge and learning. (again see my sig ) But yeah even you and Rob should be able to use PCLinuxOS, at least, with no trouble. It really is very, very simple to use. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7507970.stm Edited July 18, 2008 by Fop
