LeazesMag 0
Here we go again.................. Can we just have a separate forum for threads about the old and new board? its not about the old board. Its about Platini saying that he wants the entrants to the Champs League to be debt free, and some of us are pointing out that in actual fact, the vast majority of clubs that enter have big debts. There's a moral in there somewhere though, whatever you protest. Edited June 28, 2008 by LeazesMag
Lazarus 0
Be interesting to see which money owed is classed as debt like. And - how exactly will this debt be calculated? from the clubs annual accounts? or by some sort of independant audit? And - uefa dont like all the foreign buyouts by billionaires but if a club wants rid of its debt then it can be bought out?? And - how will this affect the formation of the euro superleague given that a lot of top clubs are in hufge amounts of debt?
LeazesMag 0
It can't and won't happen. Sad, like, but there you go. The TV companies dictate things and that isn't going to change, they will demand the money spinners continue entry into the competition. Things were much better in the old days of 3 competitions, all of which carried real achievement. Progress. If Platini said go back to this I wonder how much support he would get ? After all, on a majority decision then taking our current premiership, about 60-70% of the clubs would possibly vote with him. Only the top 4 plus 3 or 4 others would not want it to happen. sniffer 0
Platini and his sidekicks are driving the debt by making qualifiaction for the CL the financial holy grail. The entire CL format is geared up to generating this income and has almost made winning a domestic league a seconadary consideration ( which is sad and not the " spirit " of the game ). If platini wants to make a mark he should turn the clock back to the old format on a KO basis from the start but with an additional seeding system. Only the champions qualify, not the rest. Reduce the financial incentive so that it is not the be all and end all of the season and revitalise the euafa cup competition. Won't happen because money talks and to hell with what's best for the game.

Sima 0
Platini has bee spot on about practically every issue so far IMO. Sounds like you're clearly living in some sort of parallel universe tbh Well you're never going to agree with something that may hurt Man U are you. Man Utd technically aren't in any debt tbh, but nice try all the same.....

sniffer 0
Although it's beyond me, I assume it's how you define debt. In my world, if I borrow money then I'm in debt until it's paid off. Presumably that's not the case in the football world except for a handful of clubs.
