Mate of mine has been banging on about the Cumberland recently, can't see the appeal myself though. Went in the Tyne for the first time in ages last weekend, it was alright, but seemed to suffer from all the work going on around it.

As for me.. The Chillingham (too many scousers), Echo (too many students), the Hussar (never been in), or The Cornerhouse (alright). Ventured to the Newton today and was in quite a hurry to get out. :icon_lol:

Hmmmm.

You're right. One is too many. The dwarf manager is from Leeds as well.

Fair few all within 10 minutes walk from my house but I never go in any of them.

The Black Horse - Canny bar, would be the one I chose to drink in out of any of this lot.

Monkseaton Arms - Haven't been in for years, but it was recently refurbished and is apparently canny.

The Ship - Full of old men.

The Hunting Lodge - Closest to me, was good when I was younger for pool & pints after work but all the annoying people from my street - who only ever say hello or converse when it suits - drink there, so I avoid it now.

The Beacon - The most boring pub, ever. Ever. One of the lads loves the quiz though.

Foxhunters - First bar that served any of us when we all used to knock about down here, so we stuck with it til we turned 18 then fucked it off. Not been in for a long time.

As soon as we were old enough to drink we fucked them all off really. Considering Whitley Bay is a 15-20 minute walk away and town is 20 minutes on the Metro, we usually just picked one of those. Lots of my mates don't live local to me anyway, which was another reason none of my locals have ever been 'local!'

The Chilly is a funny pub imo, the lounge is always full of students and you can have a quiet pint and a bit crack on nee bother saying that we only usually go for the quiz night now and again whereas the bar is a different animal. You always feel like it can kick off any second with one stary glance or you eye up the wrong lass. We only ever go to play darts like and its always the charva's at the pool tables you've got to be on your guard with. Wacky wont come in the bar think he thinks so me old foe might come back to haunt/glass him.

Never been to that Echo it just looks shite, and the Hussar is another one I've never been in although a French Polisher I employed a while back was a regular and could say enough good things about it. The Corner House is alreet but is always packed on the rare occasions I get in there.

On the occasions I go in there it's got to be the bar like, only been in the lounge once in the 2-3 years I've been getting in there and I ended up steaming so I think of it as a bad omen. :icon_lol:

Know what you mean about the bar though, it does often look as if it could kick off, thankfully it doesn't often (from what I've seen). I just like the shady corner with the arrows, juke box and itbox. :icon_lol:

PS. You weren't the Freddie Mercury wannabe I saw dancing on the pool table in there once, were you?

The barmaid was polish who served me the other week.

The chilly has always had that atmosphere, weird place. I know a bloke (who admittedly is a tool when he's had a drink) who worked himself with the wrong people one night in there and they ordered the manager to lock the doors then pinned the said tool down and bit both his ears off and gave him a right old switching, all the run of the mill punters had to watch it going on and apparently were all warned that if anyone sang like a canary they'd get the same.

Luckily for me his lack of ears never affected his plastering ability.

P.S SMO any credibility you ever had on here went out the window when you admitted going in for the quiz night, what a fuckstick :icon_lol:

Get in the Buffs and Meadowfield occasionally, cheap decent pints I have to say.

 Class. I love seeing what dodgy team names you can get away with in pub quizzes. Must check that out some time though, I mean if you can have a 100% record...

It's true about the Chilly. The Lounge is fine, but the bar can get full of radgees.

Only ever been in Echo once, despite it being up the road. It's a bit shit really, not my thing.

The Corner House is decidedly average. Not awful but not great either. The best beer they do is Kronenbourg, which is fine but that's as good as it gets.

The Hussars, christ almighty. It's a bit of an old man's pub with it's regulars, don't sit in anyone's seat mind!

Cannot beat the Turnpike for a quiet Pint! Somtimes slum it in Clubs such as the Blutcher or Lemington middle if its a hard month. To be honest though estate pubs are usually overpriced, quiet or full of dickheads. Its usually cheaper and better to jump in a taxi, once there is a few of you it works out cheaper than the bus!

You must be taking the piss about the Turnpike. As for clubs in Lemington, the Labour Club has a higher percentage of sad desperate nobhead across all age spectrums than any drinking premises in the UK, and the middle club is clannish as fuck.

Heh, its a difficult one to call. As some Fridays you can go in, have a couple of games of pool, a laugh with your mates and its quite chilled out. The next Friday there will be a riot  Still pretty central to me and my mates so we've stuck with it. You're right about the clubs in lemington, alot of dross but for a cheap pint there ok.. As long as you don't get too close to the natives.

Sampled the delights of the Hillheads recently after my mate waxed lyrical about it, fuck me it rough! The Vallum is shit too, only as its empty and expensive. As I say, same-ish price, if not cheaper to drink in the town rather than estate pubs.

The Hillheads oh dear. Some of the gremlins drink in there, full of wanks also. I stand up for geordies, and I'm born and bred this side of the toon posh bit of the west end, but the people in the east end are far better people, that's where me mam and dad are from originally. People round here are fuckin wanks in the main, the best social club this side of the town is Westerhope Excelsior, and I got kicked to fuck off 3 kids there 3 on 1 and hospitalised a number of years ago, and I think that sums it up.

Where ye from like Anth?

I've heard a few lads mention that pubs over that way are better crack like. Never had a drink over there though. On the subject of shite pubs west of Newcastle, has any body ever had a pint at the 'Cent' in Throckley, that looks like an absolute slum of a pub!

There seems to be a mentality in places like the Periguine/Pike/Boathouse where some people, even old men, just want to kick the shit out of somebody... Sad imo
