smoggeordie 0
SOCCER bad boy Craig Bellamy faces fresh shame after it was claimed he attacked a charity worker in Africa. Shocked witnesses said the striker went into a rage after losing money in a casino following an all-day drinking session. They claimed West Ham and Wales star Bellamy, who is in war-torn Sierra Leone to promote his football foundation, grabbed the charity worker in a headlock and wrestled him to the floor. Eventually bouncers jumped on him and dragged him out through a rear exit before dumping him in a car park. The incident happened in the country’s capital, Freetown, in the early hours of Saturday after Bellamy and his two former SAS bodyguards went for drinks at the Lagonda Casino. One witness said: “Bellamy had two minders with him but within 20 minutes of his arrival there was trouble. “He was playing on a roulette table when something seemed to upset him. He was shouting and squaring up to people at the table. “A few seconds later he jumped on one guy and started wrestling with him on the floor. “The guy involved was an Englishman who is in Sierra Leone to help raise money for a charity that works with children orphaned by the civil war. “Bellamy’s eyes were glazed over and he was in a rage. There were casino chips flying in the air and all hell broke loose. It took the local bouncers several minutes to drag Bellamy out of the club and all the time he was shouting and screaming abuse at everyone. “This just isn’t the way people behave out here. There are only a couple of places in Freetown where westerners can drink. “The casino is popular with British consulate staff as well as workers from the non governmental organisations and charities that operate in Sierra Leone.” The incident is likely to cause Bellamy serious problems because it threatens to derail his plans to set up a football academy there. The witness added: “There were some important people there that night and they couldn’t believe what was happening. “It is honourable that football stars want to give something back to the game but they cannot behave like this.” Last night Bellamy’s agent denied the accusations but refused to comment further. Fop 1
Only reason Bellamy hasn't ended up in prison long before Barton is because he employs minders, although in fairness if he didn't one of the several women he's apparently never beaten ( ) would have probably beaten him to within an inch of his life. Only Bellamy could go to Africa looking to set up a footballing charity and end up with bad press from it. The charity is just Ego combined with good PR. ohhh_yeah 2991
Ex-Liverpool striker to build academy in Africa Former Liverpool and Wales striker Craig Bellamy plans to build a football academy in Africa with an aim of helping develop and unearth talent.Bellamy now with premier league side West Ham is set to build an academy in Sierra Leone to try to help develop the country's young talent. The striker visited the war-torn country last year and was so impressed by the local playing talent that he vowed to help them improve facilities. He has now set up the Craig Bellamy Foundation, which will start to build an academy in the capital Freetown. "Because of the war, children haven't had any opportunity," Bellamy said. "They haven't been thrown a football; they've been thrown a gun. "Now we can give them a chance that their fathers or grandfathers never had. That's the buzz for me. "I'm not looking to find and sell players. I'm not an agent. I want to make it clear that if any player does make it, any fee goes straight back into the academy." The BBC reported Tuesday that Bellamy has invested nearly £650,000 of his own money into the foundation and the academy is set to include 14 new leagues and 68 new boys' teams and employ 141 managers and coaches. While improving the country's football is Bellamy's primary motivation, he also hopes the foundation will lead to more youngsters receiving health awareness education.
