bluepeter1875 0
Its looking like Alan Shearer is emerging as one of the favourites and has already held informal discussions with John Williams at Rovers training ground. For me, its one big sigh of relief that the only person bigging up aLARDyce's job prospects is the fat twat himself! It would be a brilliant (and very risky) appointment for us - but its obvious now that we would be training him up until he is ready to take the helm at Sid James Park. What do you think? Torres 0
Much ado about nothing. Would be a very risky appointment by rovers, there is no reason to think he would be any good as a manager.

I think Newell would like to run the show, but he was good pals with Shearer and migjht like to have a joint bash at it. the avatar? Its Simon Garner - the best player I ever saw in a Rovers shirt - until Alan Shearer came along.

I agree - but I also think that there is as much chance of success, just because you can never tell how good / bad anybody is going to be with a certain set of players. With a full squad of very large egos it must be a tough job for anyone and I think its about the character of a person, as much as it is about their CV as a manager. Shearer will come to you fully trained up to do a good job - dont worry, we wont make him into another Souness!
ewerk 31195
It would seem foolish to give Shearer the job when there are other candidates out there with decent track records. Blackburn have a few decent players who I'm sure would balk at Allardyce's tactics even though Hughes hardly developed beautiful football at Ewood Park. Personally I'd give the likes of Ince a chance, he has done good work at the clubs he has been at so far, the only problem for me would be whether his ego has decreased any since he was a footballer. bluepeter1875 0
Ince could be a good call - just a different risk. All sortos of stuff in the rags about a mass exodus from Ewood. See ya later Mr Bentley - if we get £15,000,000 for you I will carry you to Spurs on my back to make sure you go. Latest: ALAN SHEARER/THE JOB - has been contacted and is interested in the job. His name will go onto the list that should be drawn up tomorrow. The next thing is to decide who to interview. Some are easier than others, Big Sam is gagging for it , Paul Ince is telling people it's him and Steve McClaren is waving his brolly at anyone looking. Henk Ten Cate will NOT take the Panathinaikos job for a week as he waits for the process to work out. Michael Laudrup has had a mention but I don't know of any contact with him. It's a fair list of candidates - there could be others I've missed - but the interesting bit is how they handle Shearer. Would he be interested in being on a list? Or would he have to be offered the job? That is the next stage... ROQUE - Arsenal are the club with the biggest interest. I said last week that one of his agents was getting busy and Wenger does have an interest. But it depends on [a] Adebayor being sold and a decision between Roque and Gomis at St.Etienne. Wenger will watch him at the Euros if he plays. Man U have other targets and the Ronalso crisis to work through. Shame for them... BENTLEY - I believe there is very little chance of him going to Man City. SAMBA - Obviously unsettled a bit, but he will soon get over it.
Isegrim 9896
Giving someone totally unproven the job is always risky. Shearer doesn't look like a "modern" type manager to me, but unless he is tested nobody can say about what he will be as a manager. But as he will always be an automatic candidate for Newcastle, it wouldn't be too bad if his earning his credentials elsewhere first...
Tom_NUFC 0
It's a risk, but anyone going into management has to start somewhere, and wherever that is and whatever level it's at it's still a risk that a club has to take. You can make the argument of starting lower down and working up, but a lot of managers who've turned out to be decent haven't neccesarily taken that route. There's no guarantees that Shearer will make a good manager, but I think he has the right sort of characteristics that a manager needs. Having said that, when we got rid of Allardyce I said that I didn't want Shearer because it is a risk and I didn't think it was the right job or time for an untested manager, especially as there would be a lot of pressure and a lot at stake being who he is. As a Newcastle fan, I don't mind if he goes to Blackburn as we'll get to see how he does. If he does well, it's someone we can look at to manage us in the future, if it doesn't work out, we'll know not to go there and he keeps his reputation with us intact. If I was a Blackburn fan I'd probably be a bit more cautious.
Happy Face 29
How many first time managers have there ever been that walked into Premier League jobs? Chris Coleman and Gareth Southgate spring to mind, both players at the club they took over who knew the setup inside out. That said, I reckon Shearer would do well. Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
No disrespect to Blackburn Peter, but it would be ideal for us if he went to you, proved himself & did well for three years, and then inherited the job here when KK's time was up. I could see him working well with Newell who already knows the ropes. He's got a few other good friends in the game who could make up part of a back-room team too, the likes of Rob Lee and Tim Flowers. Ince has done well wherever he's been so he could be a candidate, and I also think Steve Clarke (the Chelsea coach) will make a good manager one day. TheMoog 0
Think I must be a rarity in that I only want to see Shearer here as manager. It worries me that if he goes somewhere else he might use up his enthusiasm and any contacts he's made prior to any future appointment with us.
