The Fish 10671
I've had plenty of good experience with coppers, (I've a few mates on the force and my dad spent some as a copper.) helps if you don't initiate conversation with obstinacy and aggression as your default position mind. I reckon that the psyche of those who sign up for the most hated job in Britain will be one that leans towards arrogance, so of course it follows that there'll be a lot of arrogant wankers on the police force. However, demonising the entire force and railing against their every failure whilst refusing to acknowledge the necessary good they do, is pretty childish. As an aside, you asked for positive police encounters, and it got me thinking, how many experiences does the average joe have with the police force if they don't habitually break the law? I mean the only time I reckon the majority of people meet the police is when something has gone wrong, or they themselves have broken the law. It's unlikely that either of those two circumstance will find the public in their best moods, it's also likely that the Police will not be in the best mood when dealing with someone who broke the law. I think you've a massive chip on your shoulder about the police and you'll of course blow past this post and instead dribble some bollocks about me being obsessed, a sheep or something that doesn't deal with the salient points of the post. It's rare that anyone deals with police outside of stressful situations. You clearly have a personal reason behind your anti-police rants You, so far, have suggested no way to improve things and instead merrily throw stones. So basically your Dad was a copper (no great surprise there I suspected as much from previous comments) and therefore they can do no wrong. You're such a stereotype it is scary. (and I do love how I "must" have been raped by a police officer or whatever, most revealing about the people who repeatedly come out with it IMO )
Fop 1
also likely that the Police will not be in the best mood when dealing with someone who broke the law. Oh and again in NEITHER of the cases mentioned in this thread had ANYONE broken the law, but the police (on both occasions IMO).

You clearly have a personal reason behind your anti-police rants You, so far, have suggested no way to improve things and instead merrily throw stones. Again what has any of that to do with the issues in this thread? Other than your clear love of Daddy Dearest (or is it Papa?) which you project on to the police force as a whole. Now do you think the police in the original post or indeed the video were acting legally or even just correctly? The Fish 10671
if you don't understand this, it's not worth continuing. I was addressing the larger issue of wankers in the police force. (Oh lordy look at that I'm suggesting the police can, and often does, do wrong), I was saying that because of the nature of the work and the contempt that society has for the job and those that do the job, because of this, the job is attractive only to the very people you don't want in the job. It's a massive and massively broken system. It isn't productive to point and whine and cry conspiracy every time there is a miscarriage of justice, it's productive to actually do something about it. It's not productive to decry every police officer as scum because that reinforces that behaviour. Your rants and moans serve as nothing but a mirror showing your own hatred for the police force. My dad was a cop, sure but he's one man and my mates who're in the force are a few. I'm not stupid enough to think that a few men are indicative of the entire force, nor am I stupid enough to think that they're without fault themselves. It'd be insane to assume that a man who has real life issues and worries and concerns will be without fault at work. We don't expect it of firemen, we don't expect it of politicians why do we expect a flawless police force? What I'm saying is that You want people to list positive experiences with the police yet the majority of experiences will not be, because the majority will be crimes committed by the individual (in which case he's hardly going to think the experience a happy fun time) or against the individual (where unless the offender is caught, sentenced and punished immediately it's unlikely the experience will be positive.). It's the nature of the exchange, it will not be positive. The Police should be like a referee, you shouldn't notice them. I'm saying you only need them when there is a problem, so of course it won't be a positive experience. also, you raise the love I have for my Dad as a bad thing? I pity you. People should have positive experiences, most people will have been on the receiving end of crime (theft, uninsured drivers, hit and run you name it), yet at best they probably got a visit and a crime number and that was that, at worse they were likely ignored (unless they knew how to play the system). Their negative experiences will almost always outweigh the good. also, you raise the love I have for my Dad as a bad thing? I pity you. It is Papa isn't it? Not a problem really just your projecting of it, and that it fits SO well into your stereotype. Actually there's been quite a bit on the police losing the middle-class recently, which should be of concern to you I guess. Now again do you think the police in the original post or indeed the video were acting legally or even just correctly?

DanTheMan 0
Imagine trying to have a real life conversation with Fop! Armed Robber: No nonsense. Just give me all your money. Fop: I shall commence by pointing out to you that my demeanour is not one which could be described as nonsensical. Consequently I can attest you have no cause to reprimand me on your first point. On to your second point: Bearing in mind the potentially lethal situation in which I find myself, to wit: your presence in conjunction with the presumably loaded firearm which is presently levelled at my cranium, I will comply with your request comprehensively, albeit reluctantly. Here, twenty-seven pence. Armed Robber: Twenty-seven pence? Fuck off. There's more than that in the till. Fop: Indeed, undoubtedly so. However your request was for *my* money. The currency in the till belongs to a third party and is therefore not "my money". However, if you are still desirous of said money I would suggest that you re-phrase your original statement to recognise and incorporate this important distinction. © Viz Edited June 8, 2008 by DanTheMan

The Police aren't there to counsel you through the hard times, they're there to enforce the law and keep the peace. I don't understand what exactly you want an average copper to do when dealing with a crime, do they hand hold and comfort, or do their job? It's unsurprising that you want the best of both worlds, you seem to have a pretty selfish view on the world. It is Papa isn't it? Not a problem really just your projecting of it, and that it fits SO well into your stereotype. Actually there's been quite a bit on the police losing the middle-class recently, which should be of concern to you I guess. My Projecting? for one, I (in the very same sentence) said that the police do wrong, secondly I was actually giving a reason for my positive experience with the police force. I've no doubt my Dad was not a saint, he's told me as much himself, I'm not an idiot. He's a better man than most to be honest, certainly better than me and I'd wager twice the man you are. Now again do you think the police in the original post or indeed the video were acting legally or even just correctly? I think that for every injustice committed by the police there's countless silent examples of justice being rightly delivered by the police which does not make the news. How many times do we hear about those? Never, because it's trendy to hate the police irrationally, it's easy and naive. you're a demagogue fop and a fairly obvious one at that. I know, I know those things have no place in the modern police force. Much better to go around just making shit up and arresting to fill out this weeks quota. It is Papa isn't it? The fact is they aren't that much different to most average factory/office workers, just they happen to be in a position of power (and experiments have shown what that does to the best of people). Although I do think the job probably attracts a certain personality - and the fact is a genuinely good/honest copper would never get anywhere in the police force. You just don't get promoted for that sort of behaviour, quite the opposite in fact. Edited June 8, 2008 by Fop
