Happy Face 29
I just sent the link to a load of people at work. Unfortunately one lad didn't receive it as it seems I sent it to someone else with the same name. I hope it's not deemed to be distributing racist material on my work PC using work email. Jimbo 175
Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to miss the start of the new Premier League season after undergoing surgery on his right ankle. Manchester United said the operation in Holland on the Portuguese superstar had been a success. However, it will be at least a month before Professor Niek van Dijk, the Dutch ankle specialist who operated on the 23-year-old, can assess when he will be ready to return to action. Van Dijk is one of the world's foremost experts in ankle injuries, and is a former head of Dutch Squash Federation's medical committee. He operated on the Portuguese winger at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam. Review United said in a statement on their official website: "Cristiano Ronaldo underwent surgery today to his right ankle and the initial indications are that the procedure was successful. "Cristiano will begin his convalescence under the direction of club medical staff and an estimation of his return to full fitness will be possible following review by the specialist in one month." It remains to be seen whether the operation has any adverse effect on Real Madrid's continued pursuit of Ronaldo.

But sometimes, it is impossible for people of good conscience to turn away from the crises and conflicts of the day. So in that spirit, I'm going to diverge from my usual chattering about soccer and instead devote this column to an examination of a subject that most of us thought was part of history: Slavery in the modern world. To illustrate this human tragedy, I've selected a random victim; let's call him Cristiano:
