Actor James Gandolfini is selling off the outfits he wore on TV drama The Sopranos to raise cash for charity.

The 24 lots for sale include a bloody outfit worn when Tony Soprano was shot by Uncle Junior which is estimated to fetch up to $3,000 (£1,500).

The mob boss's wardrobe will be put under the hammer at Christie's pop culture auction on 25 June in New York.

Proceeds from the sale will go to a charity that helps wounded US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Soprano's signature white tank top, light blue striped boxer shorts, striped short robe and leather scuffs are also up for grabs and could make $1,500 (£760).

Other costumes will also be auctioned including a selection worn by other characters, including Junior Soprano, Paulie Walnuts and AJ Soprano.

It is hoped the whole auction will raise more than $35,000 (£18,000).

The award-winning show, which ended last year after eight series, centred on the life of a dysfunctional mob family in New Jersey.

8 series? Do the Beeb even check their facts any more?

You could understand them confusing the split sixth season and calling it seven. Where the hell does eight come from though?

FFS! First line: Junior shoots Tony. I'm only up to season fucking 4 and now I know this is coming somewhere along the line, ruined the whole thing for me.

That'll teach you to lag so far behind the zeitgeist.

I've seen 3 1/2 series in about two weeks, been trying to avoid any info on it whatsoever. In retrospect opening a Sopranos thread probably wasn't the cleverest decision. Fuck this, I'm off to catch up.

Clothes worn by fictional TV mob boss Tony Soprano have sold for $187,750 (£95,464) at a charity auction at Christie's in New York.

A bloody outfit worn when he was shot by Uncle Junior in The Sopranos was the top lot fetching $43,750 (£22,245).

An outfit including his striped short robe fetched $21,250 (£10,805).

The 25 lots were sold off by actor James Gandolfino, who played Soprano for six seasons, to raise money for a charity that helps wounded US troops.

The bloody outfit consisted of a black and beige polo shirt, a white tank top and black trousers.

Other top sellers included another robe, with an "S" insignia on the breast pocket, which went for $13,750 (£6,991).

A blue shirt worn by Tony Soprano in the show's opening titles fetched the same amount.

Gandolfino was at the auction along with a soldier from the Wounded Warrior charity.
