The Chelsea defender had been captain under former England boss Steve McClaren but this is the first time he will lead his country under Fabio Capello. Thinks this is a case of " Boss my career's over. I missed the penalty its not fair ... Oh your giving me the arm band thanks you know I wasn't hinting or anything right?" I'm not a huge Beckham fan, but that night, he would have stood up, wanted the ball, rallied his team mates, Gerrard done nothing of the sort. An absolute disgraceful performance. IMO wearing the captain's armband is the making of Gerrard. He's never more at his best than when he's leading the pack. With regards to the alternatives, Rio constantly unleashes foul-mouth tirades and John Terry has lost a lot of respect from me with his antics in recent weeks (no more so that when Calvalho was injured at SJP).
