Jusoda Kid 1
Develop? When is this donkey going to stop developing? NUFC striker Shola Ameobi edges towards Toon exit Jun 23 2008 Evening Chronicle SHOLA Ameobi looks poised to move to West Brom after sources close to the player indicated the Newcastle striker is keen to play under Tony Mowbray. Mowbray is believed to be close to agreeing a deal in the region of £2.5m-£3m for the former England Under-21 player. Ameobi has slipped down the pecking order with the Magpies behind the likes of Michael Owen, Mark Viduka and Obafemi Martins and ended last season on loan at Stoke. Ipswich are also interested in signing Ameobi, who has netted 28 goals in 168 appearances at St James’s Park. But the 26-year-old, who has been dogged by injury problems, is understood to have his heart set on making the move to West Brom. If the deal goes ahead, Ameobi will become Mowbray’s first major capture of the summer. A source close to Ameobi said: "Shola is 26 now so this is a big move for him and he knows a manager like Tony Mowbray will help to develop him as a player. "He’s over his injury problems now and he just wants to get his head down and play. "He is keen to get his future sorted so ideally he’d like to get things done and dusted in the next week or so. "A few clubs have shown an interest but he wants to go to West Brom." Mowbray is keen to bring in more firepower as doubts still surround the future of last season’s leading scorer Kevin Phillips. The 34-year-old, on target 24 times during the 2007-08 campaign, is still mulling over whether to sign a new contract with the Baggies.

Jimbo 175
Transfer funds blow for Keegan Jun 28 2008 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle NEWCASTLE United have suffered a summer transfer blow today after it emerged that West Bromwich Albion had cooled their interest in Shola Ameobi. It means that Kevin Keegan could be denied an extra £3m to bolster his summer transfer kitty. The striker was hoping former Middlesbrough captain Tony Mowbray was ready to offer him a chance to stay in the Premier League, with the Toon Academy product desperate to continue plying his trade in the top flight. Yet it appears West Brom are indecisive about the Ameobi situation. A source close to the Baggies board told the Chronicle: “There was initial interest over Ameobi, but his name hasn’t been mentioned for a while now. “The board know that you can’t live beyond your means when it comes to Premier League wages. “And they are going to look at all of the options before making a decision on who they bring in this time around.” Ameobi was loaned out to Stoke City just weeks after Kevin Keegan returned to the club, but the move didn’t work out despite the Potters winning promotion. A hamstring injury meant his loan stint only resulted in the Nigerian-born Ameobi playing a bit-part as they clinched promotion last May. Hull City are another club that had been linked with Ameobi, but manager Phil Brown is yet to get back behind his desk after the Tigers’ extended campaign last term. And, like West Brom, they will be cautious about splashing out too much on wages in their first ever Premier League campaign. The Chronicle revealed on May 21 that Toronto FC boss John Carver wanted to sign Ameobi and, despite the player’s agent Steven Denos ruling out a move to the MLS, the word from across the Atlantic is that the Canadian club are keeping tabs on the recently-married player’s situation. And talk that Toronto couldn’t afford Shola’s wages has been dismissed by the club. Mega-bucks Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment group are ready to back a move for the player. And TFC could exercise their designated player card, which allows teams to have one player earning more than the MLS’s salary cap of $400,000. ohhh_yeah 2964
But one familiar face who was back in training again yesterday was Shola Ameobi. The Academy product’s future on Tyneside was thought to be over, yet with no takers so far for Shola and 12 months left to run on his current deal, he may have no choice but to run down the final year of his contract. sweetleftpeg 0
He needs to realise he's shit and should be plying his trade in the championship I'd agree with this to a certain extent. Joking aside I bet he must be getting a few good offers from Championship clubs, but he's probably waiting for a PL club to come in, which isn't going to happen. I think the Shola situation highlights a lot of whats wrong in football these days, agents telling players they're better than what they are. The Fish 10856
SSN Town's bid for Ameobi stallsNewcastle striker yet to decide on future Ameobi: No recent contact Jim Magilton says he has not heard 'a dickie bird' about his interest in bringing Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi to Ipswich Town. Ipswich are looking to improve their attack and have been linked with a £2.5million bid for Ameobi, who has also been interesting West Brom. However, Magilton admits there has been no recent contact with the player or Newcastle as he seeks to build a squad capable of achieving promotion to the Premier League. "We have not heard a dickie bird from him, his agent or Newcastle, so I imagine he has gone back to Newcastle," Magilton told the East Anglian Daily Times. Agent chat "I had a conversation with his agent about him as part of the search to bring in the right sort of people who can take us to the next level." Magilton is also waiting for a response from Rudi Skacel after the Czech Republic international trained with Town last week. He added: "Rudi has one or two things to weigh up. The last Czech Republic manager made it a policy that he would not play players playing in the second tier of their respective leagues. "Whoever the new manager is Rudi would like a chat and see how it affects him and if it was a possibility that he could come to us and it not affect his international chances, then we would welcome him."
