Wavey Davey 0
Two English teams blah blah Battle of the Titans blah blah Ronaldo blah blah Drogba ENOUGH!! The hype surrounding the Champ league final is getting beyond a joke. I'm aware that there is some importance to the match, but the FA Cup final never got anything NEAR this and it also had historic significance. SIX pages dedicated to this overrated non-event in the Daily Mail this morning. It's getting to me and I've had enough. In this day and age when all the media can do is gaze adoringly (albeit myopically) at the 'top four'. It was so refreshing to see a final contested by teams that are not popular by any means. What did the press do? Bleat on about it being boring or give sparing acknowledgements in three-inch columns in the paper. Chelsea and Man Utd battled out a complete Yawn-athon last year and nobody says a word. Remind me again about who are playing tonight? People's flat-out ignorance of achievements by those who aren't either rich, regularly successful or have a worldwide fanbase has grown to such an alarming degree that even when people in the media moan about 'same old same old' they suddenly forget their argument because they wanted a 'big' team in or around the final to gain more interest, sell more papers, buy more sky boxes, whatever. Is this the way that football is going? The FA Cup was a ray of sunshine that suggested that this may not be the case. The champions league final, the build-up surrounding it and subsequent wallpapering of events on saturday, depressingly says so. You just KNOW that the match is gonna be shite. (P.s. I woke up in a VERY bad mood this morning)
Guest alex
Took the heat off Joey Barton like, which would have been all over every back page most other times. I know what you mean about games like this (ok there hasn't been an all English CL final, but last year's cup final is a case in point) being hyped-up then turning out to be gash. SloopJohn 0
i was watching the sky sports build up to the CL Final, and they were rating Drogba and Ronaldo out of 10 in their respective talents. andy gray have Ronaldo a 10 for free kicks. i mean what the fuck. his conversation rate is so bad. probably about 1/10 he scores. i'd expect a conversation rate of 1/3 (like Pernambucano a few years back) to get rate a 10. what a fucking farce. Agreed about Barton. I'm kinda frustrated that I don't want either team to win. For whomever wins means they're going to be a fucking nightmare next season. Still glad Liverpool won't, though

Aye but it's Ronaldo. His free kick against Pompey was good but to call it goal of the season was a bit much imo. Had it been anyone from the less fashionable clubs it wouldn't have got a mention. Oh, and I full expect him to remain anonymous tonight.
Guest alex
To have a '10' you'd have to be about the best free-kick taker ever. He's not in the same league as the likes of Koeman and Mihailovic (sp?) for example. Not sure I'd put him ahead of someone like Robert.
Tom 14021
I would seriously say Robert was a better free kick taker than Ronaldo, it's just because Ronaldo is popular and the technique he used for free kick against Portsmouth was somewhat unusual. Hell even some of Roberts shots from outside the box were something special...

Bombadil 0
Apparently tonight's final is "one of the biggest club football matches in the history of the beautiful game", according to the BBC. Yeah, right.

sweetleftpeg 0
Kerry Dixon was superb on Five Live last night, loads of journos on (nice gig if you can get it) wanking over Drogba, so Dixon said he was a whinge who he'd let rot in the reserves for talking up moves and cheating. Top bombing!
WubbleUC 0
I'm chuffed it's taken the heat of Joey Barton, as mentioned, apart from the video on the sun website like. It's like when the Mancs were playing at Liverpool in December. Same day Arsenal were playing Chelsea, one of them fucking wankfest weekends for Sky. We'd been playing Fulham the day before and a few of us had stopped over in London. We were flying back and werent due to fly til about 9pm, so we decided to pull ourselves together and go to and chill in a bar and watch them both. We ended up in a bar near Liverpool Street station, the Railway I think. I went outside to make a call while they had thier board meeting style table with all the panelists on talking about the day, which by the way is one of the most cringewrothy things I've ever seen. While I was on the phone I heard roars of laughter form the bar, so I ended the call and went back inside to see what the craic was. Apparently one of the pundits, I think it might have been Steve McManaman, was asked 'So, when all's said and done, Steve, who do you think the winners will be today?' His response, just as the camera was zooming on his face, was 'Well, I think there's only one winner today Richard, and that's FOOTBALL..' That confirmed to most people in that bar, what a load of complete toss the whole thing really is. Still, after this week it'll all be over. Best way is just to ignore it all right up until kick off; if you actually want to watch it that is. Pay no attention to the bullshit they spew on telly and don't let it wind you up. Andy Gray is a tit, he's paid to sound like he knows what he's on about, when in reality he just uses lots of words in one sentance in a certain tone, waves his hands a bit and points at a screen. sweetleftpeg 0
I dislike both clubs like but there is something quite amusing about Avram Grant winning the European Cup, slamming it on Peter Kenyons desk on Thursday morning, and telling him to shove his job up his arse. Happy Face 29
The only stuff I've heard about tonight's final was on five live this morning. That was annoying enough like, the whole breakfast show done from Russia with the likes of Terry Christian piping up. Is it on ITV?
