Tom 14013
He might do a couple of weeks. Barton jailed for six monthsMagpies midfielder admits charges Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton has been jailed for six months after admitting assault and affray. The Newcastle United midfielder was arrested in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of 27th December after becoming involved in a confrontation outside a McDonald's restaurant. Barton, who has one England cap, admitted the charges last month and he has now been sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court. Following his arrest Barton came under the care of Tony Adams' Sporting Chance clinic, in a bid to deal with his problems with alcohol as part of his bail conditions. He returned to action with Newcastle on 29th January and enjoyed an impressive end to the season in helping United up the Premier League table. Barton was arrested along with his brother Andrew, who was also charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and Nadine Wilson, 27, who was charged with common assault and affray. In another case in Manchester, he is due to stand trial accused of assaulting his former Manchester City team-mate Ousmane Dabo in a training ground incident in May last year that effectively ended his career with the club. He has pleaded not guilty.

Tom 14013
He might do a couple of weeks. He might do a little bit longer than that like. Well aye, but nowhere near 6 months. Just look at Doherty, given 14 weeks and he only done about 3 or 4. Plus he was off his tits on drugs in prison.
NJS 4411
Didn't Doherty do 29 days out of 14 weeks? That would suggest about 2 months.
ewerk 31195
Plus he'll get a few days off for the time he has already spent in custody over the new year.

TheMoog 0
"Joey Stanley Barton, you have pleaded guilty to the charges brought by this court, and it is now my duty to pass sentence. You are an habitual criminal, who accepts arrest as an occupational hazard, and presumably accepts imprisonment in the same casual manner. We therefore feel constrained to commit you to the maximum term allowed for these offences — you will go to prison for 6 months." Cue the Porridge theme... maggiespaws 0
Well, that's going to make him more difficult to offload over the summer. I wonder if we have to pay him whilst he's in the slammer. Shirley not?
Happy Face 29
It's like a holiday camp. X-boxes, telly in your room, 3 square meals a day, no stress. Most prisoners don't even want to break out. He'll be looking forward to doing the full 6 months.
Tom 14013
I think there was a clause included in his contract because of the Dabo case.

Our player or not, he deserves to go down for what he did - just hope it actually changes his mentality off the football pitch. As for us not having the summer without him well the club had the chance to ditch him when he was arrested - surely bringing the club into disrepute but we chose to stand by him.... Makers of our own desitny tbh.
