Tooj 17
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics...html?source=rss The Inter Milan footballer Luis Figo faced protests from fans after he was accused of deliberately running over a black cat at the club’s training ground following a string of bad results. The Portuguese star was booed as he arrived for training ahead of Sunday's match against Siena. Banners were held up bearing the slogans “Figo, you’ve killed a black cat, the whole world is disgusted with you” and “Figo, shame for Inter, justice for the cat”. The controversy erupted after Vittorio Feltri, editor of the Libero newspaper, wrote that Figo, 35, had run over the cat because it was bringing the team bad luck. The footballer, whose team is top of the Serie A league but crashed out of the Champions League in March, strenuously denies the allegation. In Italy black cats are deeply unpopular due to their association with bad luck and are often killed. Mr Feltri wrote: “I am going to tell you a sad story that may seem like a fable but it is true. There once was a beautiful black cat. It lived at Appiano Gentile [inter’s training round]. “It loved to stretch out on the grass where the Inter players would practice. They would train and he would enjoy the sun, occasionally glancing with feline distraction at those madmen kicking a ball. “It had never hurt anyone. It dozed, sprawled and with its paw would wash itself. Its problems began when someone noticed it at the edge of the pitch — oh no a black cat. “We are in the Third Millennium, the witches have all been burnt centuries ago but there are still imbeciles who believe that a black cat brings bad luck.” Mr Feltri alleged that Figo had run it over in his sports utility vehicle but that instead of ending a club run of poor results he was injured in the next match. Mr Feltri added that as a result the Inter manager Roberto Mancini had taken the team to the Vatican to visit the Pope, a cat lover, in an attempt to rid the team of the black cat’s curse. In a statement posted on his club’s website after protests by animal lovers, Figo said: “It is completely untrue. I want them to apologise otherwise I will be obliged to take legal action.” Inter officials added that Figo was “gravely offended on a human level” by the false accusation. However Mr Feltri was unrepentant. “I’m not apologising to Figo — I will see him in court and then I will bring out my witnesses.” The cat appeared to have its revenge on Sunday when Inter could only draw 2-2 at home to lowly Siena - and missed a penalty. Figo missed the game due to injury.

Guest alex
What sort of cockend goes to the training ground to have a go at him for that? Talk about too much time on your hands. It would be hilarious if Inter lost the league title btw. Edited May 13, 2008 by alex
