JawD 99
So whats going to happen? There are a few scenario's here depending on KK's planned formation and who he wants to keep etc. I expect KK to go 442 but of course we need people fighting for those spaces. At the moment we arguably have four. Owen, Martins, Viduka and Carroll. I expect Shola to be away at the end of the season. Do you think KK will be happy with those four? I know I dont. Owen I think is here to stay, and Im glad. At one point I could take or leave him, but I think he has shown that when the team play to his strengths, he can score goals. Plus, I doubt we could pick up another proven goalscorer from the prem so easy. So, for forwards I think he will be first name on the list to be kept. Martins. A very frustrating player. He can be fantastic and shocking within seconds of each other. But, I think KK will want to keep him. He is an exciting player and while he may not start every game and while I'm not sure how well he and Owen would do together in a 442, I think he will be a good squad player under KK. Viduka. Has been good and I never realised just how much strength he had. Excellent at holding the ball up. But, he seems to take knocks badly and has injury problems. Wouldnt surprise me one bit if he was sold. I'd also not be that bothered if replaced. Carroll. Young lad, maybe in the side a bit early due to lack of other options. I think KK will bring in another forward and Carroll will get less chances but will stay and fight for a place and continue his development. So, Owen & Martins to stay and be in the first team. Carroll to stay and continue his progress with some first team opportunities. Viduka to perhaps move on. Incoming, maybe one or two. What do you reckon? NJS 4355
If Arsenal are stupid enough to offer £15m for Martins then that's one out. I like Viduka but we need a similar player who actually plays a season - possibly Carrol but tbh I'd like to see another one in. I'd also like to see another poacher/sniffer in case Owen gets injured.
Park Life 71
We'll either spend enough money and compete or we won't and finish top 8 ish... edit What I meant was we need another attacking option. Edited May 4, 2008 by Park Life
Howay 12496
Carroll is nowhere near ready he couldnt even get many goals in the championship, so I personally don't want him in the first team at all next season. I'm skeptical to if he'll make it. I reckon we need another Viduka-esque striker and that can be our 4.

He does have a lot of flaws in his game but he also has a lot of plus points, I think we will need to sign at least one more striker anyway so I wouldn't want to have to sign 2 who are guaranteed to fit in straight away. We know Martins is a decent (sometimes very good) player in this league so it would be a huge gamble replacing him especially with Viduka and Owen being injury prone and Carroll not being ready. IMO he is our only reliable striker going into next season. I am not convinced Owen will keep this run of fitness up.
JawD 99
Well, Id say we need to buy one forward, or two if Viduka left. I like many would love to see Anelka here. Id not be surprised if we got crouch though. Despite being very unorthodox, he's not that bad a forward. I expect us to be around the 6-8th next season with signings. JawD 99
Everton, Blackburn, Villa, Portsmouth. Thats the group next season we should be amongst. Thats 5th - 8th currently. All of them (and us) will spend in the summer. Add Man City to the mix perhaps as well and even maybe Spurs with a full season under Ramos. Again, all will spend money so its not just about us spending enough. Personally at the moment, Id expect Portsmouth, Everton & Spurs to be the best out of that bunch next season. Villa are hot and cold, Man City depends on what happens with the manager. I dont think blackburn will invest enough. Either way, will be an interesting summer. sammynb 3342
I'd actually like to see us go all out for Santa Cruz to replace Viduka. Viduka knows he's only got a season or two left at the top flight so he'd be happy to be the third choice striker.

I was assuming a better replacement - don't get me wrong I quite like mavericks like Martins but I'd rather have a more consistent footballer given the chance. Gejon 2
Problem is signing the better replacement. We have seen in the past signing players from abroad can be a gamble no matter how huge they are and as Martins is our only reliable striker (fitness wise) we would have to be certain his replacement can do it in this league. There aren't many players who I think we could realistically attract in this league that would be better than Martins. I like the look of Santa Cruz but even he has a poor history in regards to injuries and would be more of a replacement for Viduka than Martins. NJS 4355
But Santa Cruz proves such gambles can work - see Martins himself as another.
Gejon 2
Yeah they can but they can also fail. At the moment we have someone who we know can do a job for us in this league. If we had 2-3 other strikers who we knew were more than likely to be fit for a lot of the season and perform well in this league I would be happy to take the gamble but as we don't at the moment I don't think its worth the risk. Our aim should be to be where Everton are imo and then if we finish one or two below that's fine. Again it all depends on the transfer market activity and a bit of luck. I R Toon Fan 0
TBH as much as I like 4-4-2 I'm liking 4-3-3. I'm more that happy with MO and OM (MOOM) but I'd quite like a player like Anelka to take Vidukas position. I know he wont come but I mean someone like Gobias, Huntelaar or players to that effect.
