Midfield changes

The midfield is the area I expect to see most change this summer. I reckon KK will go back to his favoured 4-4-2. At the moment we have Duff, Milner, Zog who can play on the wings and Barton, Geremi, Butt, Emre for the centre. Despite this, KK obviously didn't think he had the players for 442 and went 433. What is a possibility is he goes 442 and employs an attacking midfielder who can link up well with the front two or play the Beardsley role. If so, Id think maybe Butt (who to be fair has had a cracking season) would stay and Geremi & barton would be dropped. As for the wingers, Im not sure. Each of them have good qualities but at the same time I could see KK brining in fresh. Due to the size of the squad though, I wouldnt expect too many to leave, just more competition brought in. So maybe one AM and one L/RM.

Thoughts?

I think will will see a lot of 4-3-3 next season.

I'm really starting to beleive that Shaun Wright-Phillips is going to join us as well.

its clearly dependant on who stays in the summer but, I reckon we'll go 4-4-2 or 4-3-1-2

Forwards

Martins. gives us mobility and ability to score wonder goals, shame about his touch and decision making skills

Viduka. fading pretty fast, but does hold the ball up well, has been feeding off scraps though

Owen. revelation in his new deep lying role. not quite past it!

In terms of midfielders

butts getting no younger and his passing is getting worse and worse. i can't say that we can rely on him for next season despite his relative ability defensively.

Barton has improved quite a bit (since keegans arrival) but i think he's short of class.

geremi does have his good attributes but also has bad attributes, he keeps the ball well, but cant cross and his legs are going.

Duff is not the same player that won the league a few seasons ago.

Nzogbia has good talent and technique, deplorable attitude.

Emre hasn't really featured, but i feel doesn't suit the premiership.

defence next

Enrique looks promising, has good strength and carries the ball well. Canny passing as well.

Beye (the right back) has been our player of the season. good in both directions and carries a genuine threat going forward.

Taylor, not really good enough, makes too many mistakes and lacks positional sense

Beye (the centre back) good enough in this league, but not a top 4 team defender.

Keepers

Given, was our undisputed first choice but has gone off the boil a bit in the last 2 seasons with unforced errors and injury. not he player he was. must learn to kick a football.

Harper, good season considering how the rest of the team have played.

we do need to renovate the midfield, its one dimensional, the central defensive area lacks pace, and the forward line could do with more mobility and options

I reckon he could play in both positions like. Just not at the same time.

Dunno like, if he did we could go the whole Life of Brian thing "He IS the Messiah!" ;)

I'd love us to sign someone like Arshavin, but our stock has slipped with us being a non-London team that doesn't have European football to offer next season.

Geremi out, Bullard in is one I'd like to see.

I'd also get rid of Emre and if we can't have Arshavin, pick up the best attacking midfielder who was willing to come here.

I've got no problems with Butt (other than his age) and although Barton appears to have turned a corner of late I'd still be wary of him going off the rails again soon if his grandmother dies or he gets jail time.

don't see us selling Butt, Barton, Geremi but we could see the back of Duff and Emre. If the Zog still wants to leave I'd worry about our creativity and the imbalance in our side.

I'd want a creative spark in midfield and ore strength AND depth at the back. I think up front is ok for the time being.

I think that he's decent for Fulham, but he's nothing special. I'd rather not have him simply because of featuring well in Match of the Day highlight reels.

I'd forgotten about N'Zogbia. I think he'll be off.

nah. bullards not good enough.

Well you might not like it, but the likes of Modric aren't interested in coming here. We'll have to cut our cloth accordingly next season.

If we can get back into the top six next year we can look at attracting next level players again.

The squad needs to increase in size. If KK wants 3-4 top players I think that will be in addition to any replacements. So, if its 2-3 out then I reckon 5-7 in. I think Emre will be on his way, and Zog if thats what he wants. I think Barton & Geremi will both stay but I see Butt as the king pin in mf next season alongside a more attack minded player (new). That means we only have two wingers in Duff and Milner. Both canny but not fantastic. So I think they would stay and at least one new one coming in.

I'll be incredibly disapointed if our midfield of next season consists of Duff, Milner and one from our current central players. We need an overhaul in that department and while I don't think any of them are terrible they won't take us anywhere as our first choices.
