smoggeordie 0
KEVIN KEEGAN insists that he is ready to pay up to £25 MILLION for a player this summer. Despite the desperate disappointment of losing out to Tottenham in the big-money race for Croatian wonderkid Luka Modric. But Keegan – who has now lost a top transfer target to Spurs twice in three months – last night warned Newcastle fans that the club faces a perpetual struggle to persuade foreign stars to opt for a move to Tyneside over London. The United boss has no fear of staking his reputation on a deal which would shatter the club’s transfer record. “Spending £25 million on one player doesn’t frighten me one bit,” said Keegan, who paid a then world record £15 million for Alan Shearer in 1996. “You have to target big players. If you have a budget, it’s like any budget: if you have ‘X’ million, you can divide it into one or two players, or four or five. “We’ll be in there pitching for some very good players. If you don’t bowl, you can’t knock the wickets down. We might get hit for six, but we might get a wicket.” But, having lost out on Modric, Keegan sounded an understandable note of caution. “We may end up on July 7 with no one because we don’t offer them enough – and I don’t mean just financially. “You hear Thierry Henry say he wants to be back in London, and that is a well known fact with a lot of foreign players,” added Keegan. “It helps Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal and works against us. “But we are where we are. We’re not going to move this franchise like they do in America. “Players have to move here, they have to live here, they have to put up with the weather and they have to enjoy playing in this stadium.”

I wish we could say the same about you but all you offer - similar to other Liverpool fans - is arrogance and tedium. You can tell your a plastic fool, Keegan should be one of your heroes for fucks sake.

manc-mag 1
“Spending £25 million on one player doesn’t frighten me one bit,” hmmm...I'm no expert, but doesnt that sort of statement rather invite clubs to demand up to and including £25 million on transfers? In instances like this he should take a leaf out of T-Keith's book and zip it.

Fop 1
Because he has no nerve, poor tactical understanding (by his own admission), and has won nothing. He has probably too much nerve if anything, and frankly much like Robson, too much "honour" (if such a thing can be said to exist these days). "Poor tactical understanding" is the sign of a weak mind or poor journalism or both. It is portrayed like Keegan has absolutely no clue about anything and just jumps up and down and crosses his fingers. Funny that he's got "tactical mastermind" Allardyce's players actually playing now. As for winning, well stick Keegan at Chelsea or Man U (or indeed Liverpool) and I wouldn't bet against him. Conversely stick Fergy at Fulham or the old City setup (or even England) and would he win anything?

I think you`re mildly xenophobic and are unlikely to go full-blown. There is really no excuse for thinking that Zürich is in Germany so I can`t let you off with that. I`m glad you enjoyed the trip to London. Well to be honest I love England. It has it's faults but so does everywhere. I like France and I like Spain but for me England is top & probably always will be. There's nothing like walking your dog across some fields on a fucking horrible day where its pissing it down, because you don't really get that anywhere else. I'm 21 so i have plenty time to travel, I been advised to do charity work in Kenya if I really want to travel. And I have a C in GCSE geography (the last time I studied it,6 years ago) and London was really nice thanks. Nice sunny day too and a lot of the West Ham fans were decent crack.
