Jusoda Kid 1
In the week in which Humphrey Lyttelton died, I refuse to entertain any notion of Lee Evans et al being "funny". Then dont! Thankfully, we all like different things! Meenzer certainly does, Fnarr, Fnarr
Happy Face 29
Searching for a pic of Lee "The Latch" Evans, to make a tenuous and unamusing diversion, I got this from google images... That must ache.

Thought he was funny as fuck on his HIGNFY appearances, however his inane ramblings aren't that amusing to last for a full stand up show.

Toonraider 0
Result today!! Bloody chuffed to bits, got tickets to see Jimmy Carr at Torquay's Princess Theatre in July. £19.50 each. (First I rang ticketmaster's number to book, 3 tickets would have cost £75 with their cut So I walked down to the theatre, paid cash and got them for £58.50. Quite a difference. Plus ticketmaster had offered me seats for the Saturday night which I found out has been booked for weeks!!! So not only do they rip you off they can't even do the booking correctly

Same with Harry Hill iyam, he's obviously very witty (see TV Burp) but actual stand up material is pap. As for Evans, I think he's okay, his act is impressive to watch even if it's not that funny. Whoever it was who said Gervais was funny must be a cunt like him. Can't stand him, and his godawful self-congratulatory repetitive shite programme Extras. I hope he dies. Soon. The Fish 10674
to be fair Luke, he vreated genuine innovation in the genre, his stand up show is extremely well done. He's not even that shabby an actor when given a piece to really sink his teeth into he's not bad. Unfortunately all of the films that he's been in so far have been a variation on the David Brent character. That scene in Extras christmas special when he's in the BB house is very well done. But, like so much in life it's entirely subjective and if you don't like him, all power to ya

Spinal Tap, Curb your enthusiasm & Peter Kay spring to mind as shows that used a documentary format before Gervais did, or is that not what you meant? I do think he's great though. The Christmas Extras and Office are two shows I enjoyed even more than the hype says I should.

I meant that while the other two were pretty straight comedies using a mockumentary format, Gervais added genuine depth to the characters. Clever writing and some decent acting were bywords for that show from the beginning. People watched Curb and That Peter Kay Thing for laughs, and while most people tuned into watch the Brent charcter, they stayed tuned in for the interaction between Dawn and... that bloke. IT wasn't a sitcom anymore, it was more like a drama-com..
Guest alex
True enough. I think you had a genuine affinity for some of the characters in it and it went beyond 'pure' comedy. It's very difficult to be totally original in TV anyway nowadays and it was certainly brilliant imo, which is far more important.
